Did I just hear right?

Castro died?

Srsly?

Huh.

Well, I'll be avoiding driving far today! There will be traffic like nothing we've seen in Miami in decades, I fear.

ETA: Okay, here's what the Herald wrote about it this afternoon. Rumors are totally all over Miami - it'll be interesting if they play out to be true as this time, they're coming from higher echelons than they ever have before.

Where'd you hear that? I just checked CNN and they're blathering about something to do with Iraq and some random court case.

If true, 'twill be an interesting few days, methinks.

CNN/Fox/Google news has nothing to that effect.

Google News doesn't have anything to confirm it; if anything, this has apparently been floating the blogsphere for 7-10 days, starting on Perez Hilton's website. And many denials from such savory folks as Chavez.

I say take it all with a grain of salt until/unless it hits mainstream media. It'd be nice, but seems too good to be true at the moment.

I can't find anything on line at all about it. It will indeed be an interesting week or more if it *is* true.

All I'm seeing are reports on Vick and the sentencing of that killer in Florida.

Where did you hear? Can't find anything online about it, and I have some friends I'd like to inform, if it's true!

"Cuban foreign minister says Castro "fine""

And if he did die, it would be 24/7....everywhere.

And you're right, when he goes nothing will get done in Miami for a week. :)

There've been rumors for about two weeks now that he's dead and the Cuban government is covering it up. There's be a LOT of news coming out of blogs and independent sources in Miami saying he's dead.

Can't be. I've had CNN on all day (per usual) and they've said nothing.

Not that it doesn't mean he is dead and they're pretending he's alive.

Google News has a bunch of articles dispelling the rumors.

Huh, I can't find that news anywhere, so...? CNN and MSNBC say nope. Mostly people saying the rumor of death isn't true.

Though many people think he's been dead for a year anyway.

Apparently a Swedish local newspaper for the Northern part of the region Scania is running this story, claiming to have reliable sources at University of Miami. To the extent that other Scandinavian media even mention this, it is with a heavy dose of skepticism so far.

I can't find anything about this and I have to think it'd be all over the place.

But either way, it's news like this that make me glad I'm not living in South Florida anymore. Well, that and the hurricanes.

No no....'e's resting.

E's stunned!

Latin dictators stun easily.

(if he were really dead I'd be backing up a truck for cigar imports...)

Of course, if he really has died, I could see Cuba trying their hardest to keep it under wraps.

Interesting.

I'm the Asst. News Editor for the University of Miami's newspaper and so far all the rumors have remaiend unconfirmed (I keep calling the Editor whenever I hear a report that says otherwise, but his contacts at The Herald say it's still unconfirmed). We're discussing plans for the post-Castro issue tomorrow.

Yeah, I heard about this a couple days ago, I don't know if the rumors are true or not, but it seemed a little sketchy to me so I decided to just wait it out before deciding to believe it.
