I read books 5-7 as they came out and I have no real opinion on the epilogue. As a piece of writing I think it's pretty lousy, but I don't really care one way or another about the content of it.

Maybe you need an option for "didn't cry at any of the deaths"? Also, you didn't include Harry's death as an option!

Great poll, though. :D

uhhhh I accidentally hit submit before I'd finished answering all the questions! I am an idiot. Go me!

But yes, to finish up my 'least favorite scene' bit -- the epilogue.

And a question for JKR.... I don't know. I want to know her thoughts on the character arcs she gave Remus and Sirius both, because they feel so incomplete to me. :((

It would have been better if the last line of the book had been "...and then Harry, Ginny, Hermione and Ron all drove back to the Leaky Cauldron in the Weasleys' car.

Take Ginny out and I'd just pretend that H/R/Hr lived happily ever after in a weird yet fitting little threesome. :P

HAHAHA... it could be!

No, really, I don't care one way or the other about H/G. I *wanted* to like it, and I accept that it happened, but it just didn't do anything for me. Harry obviously preferred R/Hr's company more than Ginny's, I can't see him getting as close to anyone else as he is to them.

Also, read books 4-7 as they came out, and I was okay with the epilogue. Not thrilled, but okay.

In terms of the epilogue part of the poll, none of my answers really fit. I read 3-7 as they came out, and felt the epilogue was ... okay. Can't say I liked/loved it, but didn't hate it and am not ignoring it. I wanted more out of it, so am kind of "meh" but it's not really "I didn't like it" either.

I read books 4-7 (at least, I can't remember about 3) as they came out, and the epilogue was very "meh" to me. But epilogues usually are, so I didn't care.

But I still think the name Albus Severus sucks.

Same. I'm suspecting it's because it's the one we had the most time to absorb while Harry was digging his grave...by hand...*wibble*

I also cried buckets while Harry was walking through the woods with M/P/P/L. Buckets, I tell you!

Or Lily and James--the moment I cried was the scene in the graveyard, not any of the deaths that happened within the book, usually because they went by too fast!

Yeah, and it's also the death that is most described in detail. All the other deaths were rushed over, pretty much. It's actually the only scene in the book where I had to pause because my eyes were welling up... And yes, the burial.

Here lies Dobby, a free elf

Wah. And all the flowers that would grow on his grave. Oh, my heart. :(

I cried the most over Dobby's death and Harry's walk-to-death because they were also the most drawn-out. I think Hedwig is the one I'd miss the most (she's been there since the beginning for him!), but her death was so sudden and barely touched on... it wasn't enough to quite bring tears.

I agree with the crying when Harry walks into the forest. Nothing will ever replace the moment I read that for the first time. Ever.

I was always up for some good Neville/Luna, but I kind of wanted to see what happened between Dean and Luna, you know?

Also, given her ability with minor characters, I still wish Snape had been given more depth. No, I'm sorry, a tragic love and a bad childhood don't really make up for it.

I started reading when 4 came out, but I started from the beginning. I've always been tolerant of JKR. It's her universe, and she can do what she wants. And yeah, I've read fanfiction that was possibly better written than the books themselves - who hasn't - but it's still her imagination and her universe, and I kind of actually did enjoy the epilogue, even if it was just a tad too tidy.

*nod* It's one of the few, I think, that actually happens "on-screen" and doesn't fade to something else the instant the character dies. Fred is the only other relatively major character I can think of who is killed on-screen like that.

I've read 1, 2-3 together, and then 4, 5, 6, and 7 as they came out. I personally think 3-5 are her best books. I just felt like she was bored writing 6 and 7.

I didn't cry in this last book, but nearly did when Harry met up with his parents.

I just wasn't that impressed with it. (Though Luna is still amazing...so is Neville, come to that. And the Dean/Luna interaction totally rocked my socks.)

I've just read the questions and someone's asked "what happened to George?", which is a much better question than mine. I didn't cry too much at Fred's death because of how it was done, but it probably is the most devastating one. I understand that it was a battle situation and that it probably wouldn't have been realistic to have George's reaction, but that would have had me in floods. The idea that they're not Gred and Forge anymore and people will never get them confused again is heartbreaking. It would have been nice to see George at the station (she could've replaced the Percy line with something about him), just so we know that he's okay.

I also don't really understand why people hate the epilogue so much. The only thing I really don't like is Harry's child being called Albus Severus - spread out the awful names Harry! Use them as middle names instead! I know that it was a bit cheesy, but Harry Potter is a set of children's books after all and I thought that after the book was so dark a bit of lightness was needed. I liked the setting at Kings Cross as well. Another complaint seems to be that there was a lack of information in it. I don't think so. I think she got as much in as possible without making it seemed forced, and all the important information was there. It doesn't REALLY matter what Harry does for a living; the books aren't about that. What matters is that we see he's got a family at last, and what he saw in the mirror has become a reality. Besides, I like that JKR didn't feel the need to spell out everything for us! The only thing I did think was missing was information on Luna and George, as I've said above. But otherwise it was perfect.

I agree with you! She totally crushed me when she said about a year ago that Regulus wasn't actually Stubby and I really really had hoped he was. I mean, dying to prevent the Dark Lord from living forever is brave and noble and all, but hiding out in public as a dilettantes rock star is also immensely clever.
