Since I'm talking about both Supernatural and Harry Potter in this post, I'll use my crossover icon!

First, the reveals for spn_summergen happened this morning, and I wanted to thank krisomniac for the amazing Fourth of July-themed fic, which you can read here.

Second, my fic, A Life Between Us, was originally posted here, and this morning, I uploaded it on the LJ I set up a few weeks ago for any fics I write in 2007-and-beyond. There's some HP, some Heroes, some Supernatural and some Torchwood (and I may put some new Who up there if I finish it...), and it's pear_vodka (which will make sense to various wedt00bage and Drunkeater-type people).

Third, squee - foreword wrote an amazing ficlet featuring Barty Jr and Regulus for me this morning and you should read it here!

Fourth, rookie131 made these adorable icons for hallows_reviews:

I did and I'm going to join and participate as soon as I have the book in hand! The reviews comm is a little different, because it's not really for people to discuss each others' reviews - more to collect as many reviews as possible in one location, like a directory of reviews.

The idea was supposed to be that the second one would be for people that are upset about the book and don't want to talk about it. I did two others for people who are waiting and reading.

I haven't read fanfic in years. :-/

Now I'd *like* to look over some gen SPN fanfic, but I'd rather avoid the drek. Got any recommendations that won't spoil me for the rest of season two (since I'm still catching up on that)?

btw, I've heard of the Wee!Chester stuff, but I don't know if that's what I'm looking for (teenaged would be fine, not infants etc.). And absolutely no Wincest. I know there are people who like it and that's their business.

Angst, drama, funny only if it's *really* funny instead of what the writer thinks is funny (like crossing over LotR with SPN just to see what Dean would do if he met Sauron or Sarumann - that would be totally annoying....).

I'd be most appreciative if you could point me in a good direction or two or three.

Ok! Cool!

Start with spn_summergen and read everything. :D
Then, go to big_pink and read her fics, starting with Red, then Dazzleland.
Then come back and I'll have more of a list for you! And what about xover het and slash? There's some amazing Buffy, Doctor Who, Heroes and Gilmore Girls crossovers that are not gen, but really good PG-R rated het and slash. There's also a bunch of het and slash that aren't crossovers, with OCs or other characters from the series.

I've been trying some of the summergen fics, but wasn't thrilled with the writing quality on a lot of them. And there seems to be some sort of "theme" that I'm missing for the whole community. Also there are a lot devoted to the boys as babies or toddlers (at least that's what I've been finding - maybe it's a coincidence?). I'd rather read stories with them at least as teens.

As for crossover, I'm still pretty new to this show and would rather stay with just the SPN for now. Plus I've never seen any Buffy, the newer DW shows (the fifth doctor was the last I saw regularly) or Gilmore Girls. (I get that Jared was a regular though and understand why folks like to cross with that one.)

On the slash or het side, meh. I'm not anti-slash at all. (Just ask any of my friends from Sentinel fandom.) But I don't tend to read slash for slash's sake. Eventually maybe, but I have to "find" the slash in order to have it to work for me.

Definitely not slash for the sake of the pretty or the smutty in this fic (set preseries; I read it in March). Also, ignipes has all her fics listed here - it's gen if she doesn't list a pairing, so you can cull out what you think you might like.

btw, can you tell me if either of the big_pink stories have season 2 spoilers? I mentioned in my previous comment about that but you didn't say if those novella-length stories (I dled and printed them out for later reading) might blow anything for me regarding the rest of the season. I'm only up to "Houses of the Holy" right now.

Red was posted between September and November of 2006, so it predates most of S2. Dazzleland is supposed to take place just after Croatoan, iirc, so if you're up to HotH, you're fine to read that. It was finished in mid-March so there is absolutely no post-roadkill content, and honestly, I don't think there's anything post-Playthings at all.
