Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] marag:
When you see this post, quote from 1776 in your LJ.
I can't choose one, so here's two:

Adams: I say vote yes! Vote yes! Vote for independency!

Adams: Well, if I'm the one to do it
They'll run their quill pens through it
I'm obnoxious and disliked, you know that, sir.

It took me forever to pick a quote too :) And your icon is exactly the RL quote I was thinking of the other day, but couldn't quite call to mind. So thank you.

Adams: I have crossed the Rubicon, let the bridge be burned behind me.

Franklin: John, you can dance!
Adams: Not everyone's from Philadelphia, Franklin.

Ok. One more.

Adams: And if it isn't, well we still have 4 days left to think of something else.

I only have the New Broadway Cast Recording so for me it is Bret Spiner who is just about as good.

Oh, someday I'll have to pick that up as well, because I've heard his version and it's great too! I also own the DVD :)

It's a 1960s era musical based on the events surrounding the writing of the Declaration of Independence. It was turned into a fabulous movie.

It's a concept that shouldn't have worked, but did.

A musical from the 70s about the drafting & signing of the Declaration of Independence. You can find a clip of it here on YouTube or see the IMDB page here.

A musical (comedy) about the 1776 Continental Congress and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Written in the 70's - revived on Broadway in, iirc, the late 90's.

In addition to the previous comments, it won the 1969 Tony Award for Best Musical over Hair.

Find the DVD and give it a watch. I was skeptical, but my husband insisted, and now I am forever grateful. :)

Oh dear, someone already had this one. Okay, I'll choose another.

Witherspoon: I have an aunt who lives in New Brunswick.
Dickinson: You must tell her to keep up the good work.

I had that quote in first, but figured context was everything. It's one of my *favorite* quotes from 1776. :)

I also love Benjamin Franklin learning that his son, the Royal Governor of New Jersey, has been taken into custody, and asking with glee, "Why did they arrest the little bastard?"
