If you haven't seen yet, pornish_pixies was deleted today - femmequixotic has more about what happened. Basically, a complaint came in from this "group" calling themselves Warriors for Innocence - and lolaraincoat has more info here about what's going on.

Here's my contribution - feel free to share this - but basically, they're hiding their identity behind this "Domains By Proxy" entity.

They complained to LJ about various communities, and got pornish_pixies deleted, among other things. And P_P has been around since at least 2002, iirc.

Yeah, because it's just a company that hides owner info for anyone who'll pay their fee. I find those things vaguely ick in many circunstances, but it's legal and not uncommon.

Meep, that's probably overstating it. I think the problem here is more people who are unable to distinguish fiction (Lolita, Flowers in the Attic, the Gaunt family in HP & the Half-Blood Prince) from reality. And that's what's so frustrating to me about LJ's actions here...

Heh, I was being a bit facetious. ^^ But honestly, these fanatics (on any side) make me ill. They just attack without researching or anything, and they don't care. Livejournal even told me they doubted I condoned any of that in real life, but they still had to delete my account because they can't investigate it.

It was just sort of startling to see what a bunch of no ones could do, and so quickly. Beware stupid people in large numbers, as they say.

Thank you! I wish I could take credit for it. XD Glad I'm not alone on that thought either. And yeah, I was on a link trail myself. Currently waiting for my journal to be restored. Hopefully won't have anymore issues.

Actually if you load images from a webserver via the Google cache the webserver registers your IP and that you accessed the site via Google cache. It doesn't get your referrer (from where you got linked from) though.

That being said I have no idea if WFI hosts their own images on their server. Also IP trackers, sitemeters and counters also load via Google cache.

Domains by Proxy is simply GoDaddy (http://www.godaddy.com/)'s private registration service. GoDaddy puts their DbP info in the domain registration and any email sent to the email address in the DNS is forwarded to whatever email address the domain owner gave to GoDaddy.

GoDaddy is a very good, inexpensive, anti-spam domain registrar that I have used and constantly recommend to others - they have real, actual, helpful support staff and they do delete serial spammers whenever they can.

Private domain registration (offered by other domain registrars as well, not just GoDaddy) is a good feature for individuals registering domains who don't want to be deluged with spam email (spammers constantly harvest and spam all email addresses in public domain registrations) and snail mail spam (while I can filter out most spam email sent to my domain addresses, I still get quite a bit of US snail mail spam, wanting me to switch domain registrars, host my site, corporate credit cards, etc.

Ironically tho, spammers often use GoDaddy's private registration as well, gee, for some reason they don't want to get spammed!!! ;)

Pretty much everyone has domains by proxy to keep the psycho stalkers away. I didn't used to until I had one scary guy calling me at home! Now all my domains are by proxy and I just have sites on cheese and cats for example!

Good lord, why can't they actually check these ljs before deleting? I know it takes more time, but now that they haven't they've started a whole bunch of shit. What did pp ever do to them? Srsly, it's just hp fics, they don't hurt anyone...hopefully this injustice will be solved soon...
