Apr. 26th, 2007 10:05 pmI was very, very nervous about this episode. Prison/jail fanfics are my bulletproof squick. I hate them, almost as much as I hate deathfics in this fandom (although I can totally deal in other fandoms - I mean, there's a lot of great set-in-azkaban fic out there!). So I feared that I would hate this ep, and I really couldn't relax enough to enjoy *anything* about it until I realised, about 18 seconds before the reveal, who Deacon was - which, of course, led to a few plot-hole issues but I won't overthink them too much.
Because of that belated-reveal, we don't see the first 40 minutes from the brothers' perspective at *all*. Everything that's happening with and to them is, to some degree, controlled (no, not completely, but they're working from a plan that's more than what we know), and I like that, in terms of plot/show/creativity.
I also wibbled like hell for Dean to have *another* heart attack. I know all signs of damage were wiped away in IMTOD, but still - he knows what it's like to die - or nearly so - from a failing heart, and that was a very resonant plot point, even if it was small. Yay for continuity.
Is anyone making screencaps of the comic book commercial, btw? Did anyone catch the writing on the wall that they're coming for the children - ie plural? Since I'm totally unspoilered for the rest of the season, I'm wibbly about that - although of course, technically it might have nothing to do with Sam and Dean at all. Maybe? Don't give me spoilers to answer this, please?!?
I can imagine the casting process for this ep - "Are you taller than Jared Padalecki? Cool! You're hired!"
Of course, there were probably a few times someone said, "You're only 6 foot 4? Here, stand on this box!"
Oh, and for the Dean/Baseball OTP people, this had that great moment when he wished for a baseball! Cute! Made me think of various fics!
And I loved the fact that in the museum, Sammy picked up some cool artifact, and Dean went for the scary-shiny knife. Now *that's* a knife.
Next week?
Oh, Dean.
