You Broke My Heart in 17 Places
Mar. 23rd, 2007 02:02 pm1.In this interview, Sera Gamble, executive story editor for Supernatural. states, "I’d like to give Dean a real arc with a love interest. Some interesting, troubled, kick-ass chick who is really messes with him." What do you think about this?
Meep.
I fear the Mary Sue, and while Interesting and Troubled would be lovely, and while I didn't have any negative Jo-issues because by the time I started watching she was Out Of That Zone already, I think that the whole "kick-ass" aspect has such potential for a cliche. I liked seeing Dean more interacting with the girl in Faith than with Jo, for example. It could be done with someone like Faith but she's got to have a hella lot of independence and possibly even be older than he is for it to seem like something other than Jo-redux.
2. In what other BOOK or COMIC BOOK can you see Sam and/or Dean?
Ooooh, other than American Gods? I have an obvious soft spot for SPN/HP crossovers and AUs, although there aren't that many (rec me any you know of!) and I have such love for Julian May's Galactic Milieu series that something involving Marc in the SPN-verse - or Jon - would make me beyond giddy. Hard to fit together, but the personalities interacting would be lovely.
In terms of comic books, er, do the Heroes graphic novels count? Because, of course,

3. As far as make-up and special effects are concerned, what do you think were the BEST and WORST monsters/creatures/demons featured in Supernatural so far?
Worst creatures? Bugs. Damned bugs.
Best? Best demon-involved thing in SPN? Oh, definitely possessed!John and/or possessed!Sammy!
I think this answer was cheating...
4. All demonic rituals aside, if John had died instead of Mary, how do you think Sam, Dean, and Mary would be living today? Would Mary have followed the same path as John? Or would they have taken a completely different path?
Oooh, this is an AU you don't see much. I don't see her striking out with the same nomadic lifestyle, and she didn't have the same sort of military background as John which must've been an asset of some degree in his early hunting days, but I can also see her delving into the Darker side of things and going after Bad Things that way. But I can't see her leaving her children at six and ten for days to go out on a crusade, either.
5. We get a pretty surprising reversal of roles at the end of "Heart". Now that Sam has been in Dean's shoes, now how do you foresee the series ending, as opposed to what you thought before? Any new changes?
Answer is basically my comment to
Spinning off of a comment I made in
I just watched Croatoan for the *first* time on Tuesday - I'd been saving
it because as long as I didn't watch it, I'd always have a "new" episode
to watch, but I realised that I was missing out on something fundamental
in their characterizations, so I gave myself the treat. And perhaps
having just seen it is what made this episode ring so profoundly for me?
I fear that Dean could kill Sam, but I know that if he did, he wouldn't
live more than a few minutes beyond that. And he'd have Bobby standing by
with a promise to salt and burn immediately thereafter.
If they destroy the YED and interrupt the Master Plan (as Meg suggests
exists in BUABS) then will the threat of Dean-has-to-kill-Sam dissipate
in the next season? I'm wondering if the discussion of destroying the
"sire" in Heart somehow will impact/parallel that plotline - if the YED
is gone, is Sammy no longer at risk of going darkside? Or will it always
be a concern, like Madison was/would have been?
ETA: One more thought on choosing death, as it relates to BUABS & the underlying mytharc:
Bill Harvelle - did he make any decision or request or conscious choice to have John kill him. Was it conscious, deliberate? Or did John make the choice on his own because of how Bill looked, or how badly injured he was?
And how much does Sam know of what Meg told Jo while she was possessing him? If he knows, will he put the two situations together and see himself acting like John, and would he now see that as A Good Thing or A Bad Thing?

I kinda feel pretty confident that he wouldn't live long after. Wah.

And nearly laughed out loud -- because I love John Winchester dearly (and I'm fond of Marc as well) but they could totally have a competition on "how to fail to understand your children at all, and to drive them to rebel against you."

Date: 2007-04-05 08:28 pm (UTC)You're so definitely right about Marc as a dad! I actually read the Galactic Milieu series first, so I saw Marc as Jon's Big Brother (overprotective and totally there for ickle brother! Sound familiar?) so when I read books with Marc as-a-dad, it always seemed really awkward and he had a teen-ish-ness to him that never really disapeared, IMHO. Of course, all the Remillard dads had *major* parenting issues - John Winchester isn't the only one who's had to deal with Parenting While Possessed.

Date: 2007-04-05 08:55 pm (UTC)I think I once described Marc as having the parenting skills of a distressed rabbit. You're right that he was a great brother, but it's as if he used up all his good instincts with Jon, and saw his actual children more as tools than anything else.
I never object to being friended.

: goes to reread Jack the Bodiless again.... Gah, it's been probably two years?
