re: the Stargate Archive thing

As I understand it, after reading up on it overnight (via sidekick, during the blackout), the site had all the episodes of the show (and possibly the movie, but that's unclear) available for download in ASF and DIVX formats - someone on slashdot checked the Wayback Machine - and that would seem to be why the feds went after him. It would be like FictionAlley having PS/SS in book form, the CoS movie and deleted scenes, and, say, OotP as read by Stephen Fry, all available for download.

So while I don't think complacency about either copyright issues or the overuse of the Patriot act are good ideas now, or at any time, I also don't think that this situation should instill paranoia among anyone who doesn't have the actual source material available for download - and, btw, per the Arriba case from 2002, low or medium resolution images don't run afoul of the copyright law as long as their used for news reporting, discussion or in a transformative sense (ie thumbnail-sized icons).

On July 31, I'm going to be joining Jenna from DanRadcliffe.com at the Ft Lauderdale Museum of Discovery & Science for some "birthday" events before the 4:15 showing of Prisoner of Azkaban on the museum's IMAX screen.

Join us there in the afternoon - and feel free to wear a costume. There will be prizes and other fun things going on, including a costume contest, trading card giveaways and cake! We're also going to be signing a huge birthday card for J.K. Rowling herself, and Jenna from DR.com and I (on behalf of FA & TLC) will be MC-ing the film and helping run the pre-show events.

The events start at 2:00 pm, and admission + the movie will be $12.00 for kids and $14.00 for adults.
