Born Under a Bad Sign thoughts
Feb. 9th, 2007 09:00 amWell. 9/10 of the episode, right?
First thought - Jared does evil very well. Very. And as Dean says at the end, he's had a girl inside him for a week - a little more, actually - and he hasn't been himself for any of it.
Second, I've seen some wondering about the binding and why demons don't do it more often and I have two thoughts on that - first, it might trap the demon in a body for longer than it wishes to be - Meg certainly wanted to be Sam for quite a while to go on the hunter killing spree.
But also, is it possible that Meg had - and needed - human help - perhaps in the form of the FBI guy - or possibly Ava? - to capture and posess Sam? And maybe it takes longer for a demon to accomplish that than it would for a simple "I need this truck crashed into that car" thing, where it doesn't need to go beyond a few minutes or hours of control?
When Sam is telling Dean "what happened" we have, as we learn later, an unreliable narrator situation - Meg is "playing" Sam and saying what *she* thinks is necessary to get Dean to believe the story she's telling. But actually, through 97% of the episode, it's only Meg speaking - Sam is in there and sometimes aware, but not actually saying or doing anything. It's all an act, by Meg.
So it's possible that it took more than an instant for Sam to get taken and posessed and branded and all that. I think it's possible it took 2 or 3 days, and that's when he went to kill the other hunter. I'm curious as to why we'll learn why that guy was chosen first. And why don't *all* hunters put a nice devil's trap right inside each door, as a just-in-case?

But in Phanton Planet they mention you have to be.. at a certain like openness in your mind to allow it. Like not trying NOT to be posses like? I have no idea if that made sense, haha.
Yeah I'm wondering, if you're a hunter why don't you cover everything in Devil Traps? Or wear the necklaces Bobby gave them like all the time?

But I do think Sam would have put up some kind of fight when he knew what was going on inside him. Being a trained hunter and all.

Date: 2007-02-09 03:18 pm (UTC)I figured the demon put the binding mark on Sam because it was going after Dean and other hunters, people who had a chance of catching it and exorcising it. It took the precaution, and it turned out to be a smart (if not, in the end, completely effective) one.

Date: 2007-02-09 09:11 pm (UTC)And uh, before I ramble too much--I think the reason most Hunters don't have a Devil's trap around their front door is because they don't know about them. The DT comes from Bobby's Key of Solomon; Sam, when he goes through the book, says he's never seen anything like it before. Hunters, for as much as they occasionally congregate, all seem to have a lone wolf-ish attitude, especially towards information.
