The Dan at Princeton thing that's been posted variously on sites and LJs?

Not true.

It comes from the Daily Princetonian's website, but both Princeton and Penn (and other ivies?) do this annual joke issue *months* before April Fool's Day, and as it says on the bottom of the article on the site,
This article is a part of The Daily Princetonian's annual joke issue. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.

So, yeah, not true.

I could comment that I don't find Princetonians particularly funny and that I prefer the Penn gag issues as a general rule, but that is residual college-rivalry-based snark and also might involve my admitting that in my Freshman year, I believed one of the articles about Penn being on probation in the ivy league and I'd rather not do that.

Er.

The funny thing about this is that of all the Ivies Princeton has the rep of taking famous kids or the kids of famous people whether they deserve to be there or not. Remember all those rumors about Brooke Sheilds? I can't think of who else, but I remember at the time there were sort of a lot.

It's amazing that 20 years on, the reps about who goes where are the same.

...and the actresses go to penn, but don't actually graduate, then lie about their ages and nobody calls them on it...

My non-Ivy college did something like this once a year/semester as well -- if it was going to happen, it was at the end of the semester. The normal issues were the "Lamron," which is "normal" backwards because Geneseo used to be a Normal school (teacher's college). The joke issue is, in fact, called the "normaL" even though it was anything but. s:)

it's funny in the context of a Uni, but when it goes beyond those who know, it's like that article in the Onion about JKR & Satanism...

Daniel Radcliffe go to Princeton... pfff, yeah whatever... although I did believe it for a whole 3 secs.

Reminds me of Prince Williams going to St Andrews uni and suddenly everyone wanting to go to Scotland :)

I wrote an article for my undergrad school's april fools gag issue several (and when I mean several I mean like... five or six :-p ) years ago about Britney Spears enrolling there.

It was much funnier as well as more obviously a joke, considering it was a uh, geek school. :-p

Erm... It's a bit early for the gag, isn't it? I missed the first rush of it all so I don't know if I'd have fallen for it or not. Since I hung out on the west coast for college, I would very likely have not ever even paid attention.

*is not at all snobbish about coasts, really :P*
