heidi: (Xanadu)

So [livejournal.com profile] laughingirl told me about Xanadu moving into the pre-Broadway rehearsal stage and the roller-skating component and I know it's going to be better than Starlight Express, so I think I am going to be in NYC to see it in June, and that means I need to get started on making some ribboned barrettes sooner than later. Am thinking of making them in Hogwarts House colours - anyone want any to wear to the conferences/movie premieres this year? And should I put beads or shells on the ends of the ribbons?

And I got a discount code today from Register.com for a .mobi domain name and I got fics.mobi for FictionAlley as a little birthday present from me and Jeremie the Techie is already planning stuff and it kinda works for non-R-rated fics on FA already and you can test it via that page and if you do please give us feedback! Consider it in pre-pre-pre-beta release now - he's going to work on it more come February. It only works for actual fic pages, not Author Pages or the pages that list chapters, but I think it's pretty cool as is and it has the potential to be even cooler.

I'm putting together an updatey newsletter for FA users today and already have stuff from Sectus, PR and Prophecy - does anyone have any fic or art challenges, upcoming events, meetups or anything else to include? Email me or comment!

ETA: Last thing! Chocolate covered caramel popcorn from Popscorn.com? MOST evil thing in the universe, bar none. It could only be more evil if your accompanying beverage was Bailey's.

PSHAW. Everyone knows that feathers go on the ones made with the triangular hair clips.

Auuuugh! I'd forgotten about ribbon barrettes! Quite happily, I might add. I feel SO OLD. But, okay, they would rock in house colors.... on someone who isn't me (but maybe someone I'd like to snog...).

but.... nothing can be better than Starlight Express! (although, to be fair, I've heard that the American production was crap. But the British version will forever trump everything)

I actually saw the British version - London, Summer 1985 - but it was a rainy night, and there were a few pauses in the show so they could clean the water off the track. Not very conducive to a good theater-going experience. We also saw an adorable play called Daisy Pulls it Off on the same trip, which I enjoyed a lot more.

I just got a flashback from seeing those barrettes. Mine had beads, but I also had a set that had feathers that were cool. At the time.

...and we wore them with shirts that had glitter-silk-screening, didn't we?

They're pretty. House colors would be cool, and you could also do Luna themed ones in... any color if you could find radish or other unusual beads for the ends.

I completely love pink & green as a colour combination.

Somewhere in my library, I have my original Preppy Handbook, though, which pokes fun at it. Meh.

I saw Starlight Express either Year 1 or Year 2 in NYC. I thought it was incredible. I was 18. Took husband to the tour that came through Orlando two (?) years ago. The tour sucked. The songs had changed. That version was not so wonderful

Xanadu should be outstanding. I have the movie in VHS and I have the Album (yes) album soundtrack.

Ribbons barrettes - had them in my high school colors. Beads were a definite. I would think house colors would be good but use the book Ravenclaw not the film. I really wish I had a true Ravenclaw scarf - I want the JKR colors not the Warner Brothers colors.

I had a bad experience with SE. I saw it in London in Summer 1985, and there was a rainstorm and the theater roof leaked and there was water on the track so they had to start late, and they stopped the show at one point so that nobody would get injured. Not the most brilliant theatergoing experience, frankly.

See... it's remarks like these that led me to pick the booze icon in that meme.

My friend Lonny and his Brother owns popscorn and yes the chocolate covered carmel corn is evil but not as evil as the sour creeam and chives.
