heidi: (Canon spinning)

I still can't wait to read the book, but I admit to being somewhat meh-ish about the title itself. It's not as wtf as the fake Storge one, and there's a lot of intrigue in it and things to ponder, but... the fascinating-ness of it isn't going to be the title for me, but the contents of the book.

What I do like about the title is, weirdly enough, what it sounds like if you say the sounds of the letters - "teh deh hah" is almost like "TAA DAAAAH!" but I would be shocked beyond belief if she did it on purpose. I think I am going to call it "Teh Daaaaah!" in my mind, though - it'll be my personal squee.

FA discussion thread is now up here and I kinda liked the sound of "Deathly Hall", which is how I first saw the title on my handheld, so I made a community at [livejournal.com profile] hp_deathly_hall - anyone want it for an RPG or something?

Has anyone started or begun to plan any writing or art challenges related to the title? Because I'd love to mention them on SpellCast's news section for this weekend's episode, so please leave url- or contact-info here in a comment if you are or know of one.

ETA (now, with silliness!: Okay, I am losing it....
I've been repeating "TDH" to myself off and on this morning, and thinking I liked the sound of it. And [livejournal.com profile] hermione_like pointed out why that probably is...

TDH?

Well, without the "the", it's DH.

MY SHIPS! MY SHIPS! MY LOVELY SHIPS! They may not be canon, but they're in the acronym!

Oh, come on, Guns & Handcuffs and Leather Librarian types. You know we love it. ETA AGAIN: And Humble Narrator mentioned it in the Guns & Handcuffs thread on FA, too! Come by and giggle!

I will say in its favor that it does seem to bring things full circle, what with Harry's parents being murdered initially on Halloween (All Hallows Eve).

But she'd hardly run him through only six months of story; isn't it always a full year?

It could be more than a year this time. We don't know that the Horcrux hunt will fit neatly into a year.

Good point. She has frontloaded a lot of things to take care of in this book... perhaps it will actually cover five years and the book will be large enough to be used as an extra stool or ottoman...

Hee! I like that idea. She did say once that the last book might well be the longest because she won't want to let go.

Yes. Which is one of the reasons Voldemort is the most punctual villain in history; he always attacks in May.

What amused me is the adverb.
Considering everyone, including Stephen King and mentioned her overuese of adverbs I cannot believe she used on in the title.

Did no editor type mention to her that "Harry Potter and the Hallows of Death" sounds way more interesting?

I would've liked HALLOWS OF D0000000000M myself, and we still could have had a LOVELY acronym of a title!

Hallows of DOOM would have been the best. As it is, they're only rather ill-looking hallows, not Moria or Dunharrow.

Guns and Handcuffs?

Please, explain. I am bemused. How did this come about?

IIRC, it's a reference to two fanfics - one with the two of them being gangsters-with-guns in Snitch, and one with them being handcuffed together in Irresistable Poison.

But it's already on the news page on Google, in the title of news articles - almost 500 in google's news cache already. And it's in the title of those articles, so I don't think it's at all avoidable.

I saw this earlier and was wondering what you were talking about...then I get a Leaky Lounge email saying something about official title-ness, and now I get it. That's pretty clever!

See, and I was all "TDH = 'the dear/damn husband'" - it's a shoutout to the changes of the last 10 years of her life! Either that or she's hooking Harry up with Draco/Ron/Snape/Zacharias and OMG they'll get marrrrrriiiiiieeeed and have a fancy dress party!

...what?
