19:19 - This just in from CNN, a federal judge has ordered that 16 precincts in Cleveland stay open until 10pm in order to allow people to vote - this morning there were apparently technical problems (or something) that stopped lots of people from voting in that area.

Gacked from DailyKos

ETA: On the gov. level, turns out it doesn't matter. Strickland (D) beat Blackwell (R); if you remember 2004, Blackwell may have engaged in Suspect Practices to swing the state to Bush, including invalidating registrations because of the weight of the paper. But people should still vote anyway because of other important races!

ETA at 8:01: Yay. Katherine Harris lost. See my surprised face? :)

ETA at 9:36: They're saying O'Malley in Maryland on CNN. And Chaffee lost to Whitehouse in RI. Is that what you locals are hearing?

10:52: And Clay Shaw has LOST to Ron Klein in South Florida, YAY! My grandmother is beyond thrilled.

11:29: Gacked from The Onion: Republicans Blame Election Losses On Democrats

And Hastert has conceded that the Dems have taken the House.

All the Cleveland news outlets are saying 9 p.m., actually, but still: yay.

(Incidentally, it looks like most of the precincts with problems were in Cleveland Heights/Shaker Heights areas, which skew way liberal (that is to say, liberal-er than the rest of Cuyahoga County), so hopefully people will go out and take advantage of the later times.)

Also, FWIW, the Blackwell/Strickland thing was pretty much a foregone conclusion -- words like "runaway" and "insurmountable" have been used to describe Strickland's lead in the past week. Most of the people I've discussed the election with have been more concerned about our senate seat and the statewide issues.

I'm trying to figure out if my voting place was in the Heights or not... I think it was? ha... I really should know this, but I just... went to the address on the card. (just outside of little Italy, if that helps any, ha)

There was some shadiness there, actually-- I went to vote with my boyfriend, and they gave us both a hard time for having licenses that didn't match the address they had on file-- I had my voting card with me, he had mail FROM THEM to the right address with him... they gave him a bit harder of a time since his license is out-of-state, but I didn't hear how they resolved it, because I was already waved on ahead.

Our names were both on record, though, so in the end everything worked out.

You/your boyfriend should fill out this form.

You and/or Heidi, feel free to pimp that out. They're trying to record any irregularities with the election.
