I didn't do a post today last year - I don't remember why not - but in 2002 and 2003 and 2004, I posted links to real-time posts and news and frights and tears on September 11.

But this year, YouTube exists, so

I do not despair. I come close, but I cannot get to that point. I still have to hold this optimism in my heart and my soul and believe that, as Jon said that night, chaos cannot sustain itself.

Thanks for putting that up, Heidi. I certainly needed to hear it after mucking through all the propaganda today. :)

When I read the "five years on" stories in the Times today, when they revisited families of those who were killed in New York, the thing that I kept seeing was a desperate hope. And right now, for very different reasons, that's what my family is feeling, and so for me, I've been so close to despair in the last six weeks that I need to see that there's hope of a light somewhere in the future in people's individual lives, and there has to be for hte country as well.

It was this clip that broke me out of my frozen shock and my deliberate shielding of myself from the inevitable barrage of viewpoints and let me grieve after 9/11. Thank you for posting it so I could see it again.

It seems strange that when that happened, I wasn't even pregnant, and now just-turned-4 daughter is stomping around the living room demanding attention. Having a child is truly one of the largest gestures of optimism.

Thanks for posting the Jon Stewart link. Think of the living. Think of those no longer with us. Think of what we've lost. Think of our future and what we want it to be. I don't think of 9/11 every day, but I do think of it often and am reminded what it meant and what it still means. Nothing is the same, but maybe, just maybe the events of that day will eventually lead us back to a place of hope. I hugged D a little bit more and a little bit longer today.

Remember that it doesn't take a day of remembrance to share with those you love the feeling that both life, and freedom, are precious.

Quite possibly the best speech I've ever heard regarding 9/11. And it came from a comedian who allowed himself to grieve with the rest of the nation. I'm just... speechless...

I saw that when it aired originally, and I was speechless. His way with words is incredible, and he just...nailed it.

Oh wow. I hadn't seen that before, and didn't get to finish watching from Nancy's post before practice last night.

Thank you.

Hi. :o) I don't remember how I got here but I wanted to thank you for posting this video. I'm from the UK, but 9/11 had a massive impact on my life in a way I can't really explain without delving into the realms of TMI or making you think "WTF" because we don't know each other from Adam. (long-ass sentence there :/)

Jon's speech... well, I don't know. I'm not good with words. I'm crying, but in a good way. So I'll just say thank you and move on. :o)

Hey -

So I was just wondering where you got your layout. Because I was skimming random livejournals (yours included), and I saw this girl with the exact same layout as you. Which would make sense, if somebody made the layout and distributed it widely. But if you made it and didn't distribute it, then...there's definitely some layout theft going on. Just checking, I guess. :D

Clever icon!

No, it's a standard (although relatively uncommon) livejournal layout called cuteness attack. All of LJ's public layouts are listed here and it's about 1/3 of the way from the top. But thank you for worrying!
