I went back onto an old Yahoogroup to check something, and found that Miss Partly Bouncy, who I will not link to because she's been using clear gifs aka web beacons to track visitors to her LJ and profile page, had the following at the bottom of her posts to various mailing lists in April of 2001, ie two months before CassieGate:
Huh. She quotes something, and cites, not the creator of the series or scriptwriter (one and the same in that case) but the character who speaks it.
So when I say that there were no definitive rules in fandom in the spring of 2001 regarding how to properly cite, I'm not lying or trying to obfuscate-after-the-fact.
And now I am putting it all away through the weekend...
