Dear [livejournal.com profile] partly_bouncy

I was recently pointed to your post of earlier today where you state that I asked you to take down the "article" on your "wiki" about me.

I did no such thing. I sent you the email shown below. I'm happy to make screencaps of it available, and I'm sure any rational read of it would clearly indicate that nowhere did I ask you to take it down; I know enough to know you'd never do that willingly. I asked you to remove my last name, and that is all. And I ask you again to do so. Please.

Subject: Fwd: Use of real last names on your "fanhistory" website
Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2006 10:50:39 -0400

Laura, I wanted to speak with you about your use of my last name on
the fanhistory site. Obviously, we have
different ideas about what has happened over the last six or so years,
but right now, given everything that has happened in my family over
the last five weeks, I just can't fight with you about all the lies
and distortions you've put up there. Separate from all that, though,
you're entitled to your opinion, and I'm not asking you to change any
of that. But you don't need to use my last name to discuss fandom
history; any reference to Heidi is already a reference to me. If you'd
remove my last name, I'd appreciate it.

Heidi

You can't be really expecting civility from the loonies can you? :)

She seems a bit defensive. Would've commented on her LJ, but what's the point. She doesn't seem to get that what she has done PUBLICLY inflames the less sane amongst us to get all worked up over pitifully small things, relatively. She is right about one thing (IMHO), other than removing your full name (which posting is meant to be a threat) , I would just ignore her miserable existence. Won't name call though, but creepy is an odd word for HER to use against someone else. :)

Good Lord.

I didn't realize you were so deeply involved in all that crap. Sorry if I offended you previously with all my "Cassandra Claire is a nonentity in my world" posting, back when I first read about it. Of course, Cassandra Claire IS a nonentity in my world, but that's beside the point.

The point is: what's WRONG with that girl, exactly? I'd ask if she maybe just couldn't read, if she translated that e-mail to mean you expected her to take down the wiki, but she writes, so she should be able to read.

I love how everyone expects apologies for everything. Half the fandom thinks they're owed something by someone. *le Sigh*

Nah, I've been friends with Heidi for years, and I'm loosely acquainted with Cassie and others, and I've never been a great fan of Cassie's early writing. But, you know, some of us can distinguish betweeen liking someone, vs. liking their work, vs. being genuinely happy for someone else's success while still being critical of that work. Some of us who are not BATSHIT INSANE, that is.

So I'm sure Heidi will say so herself, but meanwhile, I can attest that fangirling Cassie is definitely not a requirement for obtaining or sustaining Heidi's friendship. ;^D

I've never seen her work, actually. Nor did anything I've read about it lately make me want to seek it out.

And batshit insane about covers that chick. (Whatever her handle was. I've already forgotten. I guess she was right about being a nobody.)

I almost posted something, but the more I read of her rant the more I realized how utterly pointless it would be. I think she must be delusional, and there just isn't any reasoning with that....

If I saw it I don't remember it - I was pretty afk and out of it for the first half of august because of my sister's husband, so I missed many days of LJ.

But even if I'd seen it, as Gwen says, it wouldn't matter to me. I don't hate people or end friendships just because someone doesn't like the writing of a friend of mine, or even if they think that she took too much from other works, or if they think I did. There's more to the world than that.

Exactly. For example: I have no opinion of whether either of you took too much from other works, since I haven't read any of your stories or hers, so far as I know. I just friended you because you were nice. :)

Well, as she's also used your last name in her journal entry, along with the LJ tag....I'd say she's not going to budge an inch.

It's also tres, tres interessant that in the comments, she accuses you of calling up her workplace. Um. Pot? Kettle?

Wow...

That's pretty darn stalky. One wonders whether this person has ever actually managed to get laid, or whether she is still living in her parents' basement.

The level of nastiness prevalent in the HP fandom never ceases to amaze me. And all this plagiarism wankery when everybody concerned is ripping off JKR's IP from the get-go?

Bizarre.

Well, just because I was curious, I asked her why she uses your last name... I hope I haven't opened up a can of worms. I like to keep all fandom doings positive (and it's really easy to do so!!), but whatever.

Do you still use your real name in fandom dealings?

Wow. Well um, I have the same question as airemay, is your last name used frequently in fandom? From the comments it looks like it is?

I have (although I haven't used it on my fanfic since probably 2001 or 2002 at the latest) but so do over a dozen of the other people who have entires in her "fanhistory" thing, and none of their real names are mentioned, which makes me think that she's singling me out for some reason known only to her. It's inconsistent, at least, and I really hope she doesn't target any of them, which is why I am replying and screening it, because I don't want her to see it and get ideas to go after anyone.

Unscreened, because I think the risk is now smaller. I hope.

Total eek. I've known you longer than she has and I'm convinced she has waaaayyy too much time on her hands and no life outside of cyberspace. Too sad, really. At least she hasn't exposed your maiden name (and I'm not gonna help her do it. ;-)

weird

I'd never even seen that whole website... it's got a bit of a one-sided slant to it, doesn't it. As someone who was around when a lot of that old stuff was happening (and thankfully a forgotten component), it's strange to see how much of it they've got just wrong.

Reminds me why I gave up following all that stuff back when I was in college.

Sorry about the name stuff.

By the way, law school is in full swing and I'm loving it and i owe wanting to go all to you, so while strange people that don't know you may be getting you down, you influenced a young HP lover to go to law school to pursue her entertainment law dreamin'.

Mildly irrelevant, but is your misspelling of her lj name confined to this post or was it wrong in the email too? Because if it was, she may not have gotten the original message at all.
