Just over a year ago, I wibbled about the hit we were about to have from Katrina, which was supposed to be barely a one as it passed by us -

Of course, we put up the shutters and had our flashlights at the ready and filled up our cars, and all in all, South Florida wasn't terribly devistated by that, not compared to Wilma a few weeks later. It wasn't great, but it wasn't a mess like the Gulf Coast either.

Now, the news is saying, "Forecasters said there was a 10 percent chance of hurricane-force winds striking South Florida and a 60 percent chance of tropical storm-force winds."

So we're boarding up and bringing things inside and tomorrow I'm turning the air in the house down very low so in case we lose power, it won't get too hot too quickly. And nobody wants to go to Disney with me, so we're charging up the porto-dvd players so the kids can have their videos even if the power goes, because there's no school Tuesday or Wednesday, and I'll bet we have Thursday off too because they tend to do that if *any* schools are without power, because they're idiots who can't plan for this kind of regularly occuring contingency, alas.

Let's see what happens late tomorrow...

And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] peacock_harpy for my new Cone of Dooooooooooooooom icon.

Good luck! If we get a hurricane, we're going back home to the coast. It's safer than inland. Jeez.

I'm on the coast of North Carolina, and we are pass-due for a good smack by a hurricane. Last baaaad one was Floyd, and he was '99 (so long ago)...

Good luck, Heidi and everyone in south Florida (that would include my in-laws up near West Palm Beach too, I guess).

I did, and I am considering it, but I kinda like my Kitty. Which is weird, as IRL I am more of a dog person.

I grew up on the east coast of Florida, where people did not take hurricanes seriously until Andrew. Good luck with your preparations. Let's hope this thing spins out to sea. If not, we're bound to get some tornado action in NC, where I now live.

[patpat] There, there. Time to go pick up the stray styrofoam cup ravaging the property from Ernesto's fierce winds. ;)
