I've heard that people have made death threats against me regarding my panel at Phoenix Rising next year, and I just can't handle subjecting myself to that kind of situation right now given everything that's happened, so I'm not going to be doing the panel anymore.

ETA on Thursday, Aug 17 at a little before 1 PM
Amy and I were both extremely upset about everything that's happened in the last few weeks when we spoke about Phoenix Rising on Tuesday night. She told me there were death threats regarding Phoenix Rising and my appearance on the Jenkins panel, and I assumed they were against me. Regardless of who they were against, the fact that anyone is being threatened with death if I appear on a panel - in other words, it doesn't matter if someone's threatening to kill *me* or to kill someone else - is enough of a reason for me to step down from the panel.

I've been in fandom for a helluva long time. I've seen fannish wars that literally created factions and had stars of TV shows either taking sides or completely cutting themselves off from the fans because of it.

But I have *never* heard the like of this before.

Heidi, as much as I think you have been wrong, and am pretty disappointed in a lot of your behavior, and as much as I think some of the things you have done are bad things, NO ONE - NO ONE, Including you - should EVER have to deal with a death threat. I think it's pretty reprehensible that death threats should be sent out for any reason, let alone fandom involvement. As a bad_penny mod I don't want our comm harbouring any people who would do such things and we recognise the severity and illegality of the threats.

Amy has very kindly offered to help with regards to providing evidence that could iink the harrassers to bad_penny so we can ban their asses or turn off anonymous posting and potentially turn them over to their ISPs; likewise, I've offered my service to the PR gang and have let my email address be given to relevant authorities should they need the help of the bad_penny mods in locating the people sending threatening messages.

If you've received anything similarly threatening yourself (and I'll need IP addresses or email addresses to prove it on JF) you can send it to me or make a filtered post to me. I can be contacted by email (adjectived_noun@hotmail.com) or IM (theregoesyamum on Y!M or AIM), and I'll happily scan over everything at JF to see if we have any idiots coming from there.
