Movies! And Videos!
Jul. 8th, 2006 07:22 amKid-free-yesterday allowed Aaron and I to see a double-feature of our own making: Superman Returns, then POTC.
First, the worst thing we saw was the trailer for Rocky Balboa. Yes, a new Rocky movie, 30ish years after the first. WTF? Why? What is the point? Wibble!
Aaron says the best thing he saw was the trailer for Spiderman 3, but I was getting popcorn and missed it. I hear it's somewhere on youtube?
As far as movies go, our spoiler-free reviews are, POTC? 8. Supe? 3.
Jack.
Ah, Jack is amazing. Also, the return of Barbosa, squee. Norrington's snark. Elizabeth's swords - and I know some didn't like her snit-fit but I did (wasn't sure about the IC-ness of her shackling Jack, though, but I liked her guilt trip afterwards). The Turner Family Reuinion. The Hammerhead pirate. Jack, and dirt. The dog, as a god. The hamsterwheels. Jack, and rum. The amazing triad-of-swordplay.
Yes, I think the witch, whose name I forgot, was the one Davy fell in love with - the musicbox & necklace are too similar - and I can't wait to see how Jack gets out of the craken and Will completes his vow and Elizabeth marries all three of them. That's got to be legal somewhere in El Caribe, isn't it?
Probably Tortuga.
We couldn't remember if the bloke from East India was in the first film. Was he?
But before we saw POTC, we saw Superman.
Alas, Superman, you are not as fun to watch as Batman or Spiderman or any X-Men, collectively or individually, and I can't suss out why. But my major-comic-book-geek of a husband agrees that in many ways, Superman was
I've read good reviews of Superman.
I'm sure it would've been a wonderful film in 1987 or something.
Richard/Clark/Lois seems like a good idea.
I liked Martha. Also, Jimmy and Old Jimmy. The electromagnetic pulse was clever. Parker was usually good but she's looking older than she should.
But oh my god the galactic stupidity.
Lois leaving her cell makes no sense. It's likely it would be out of range *anyway*, at the house but at least on the boat so why not take the damned thing? And bringing her son on a reporting job? And *not recognizing* Clark as Superman when they're *both* MIA the exact same time?
There was more pain to the brain but recounting it just makes me more desperate to see Batman Begins again. Or kneel before Zod.
Oh, and whoever said John Glover shouldve played Lex? Yes, as the meta-ness could only have improved the film. Meh.
ETA:
And, gacked form
slytherincess and
legomymalfoy, 1500 music videos from the 80s! I am off to hunt down Scandal's Goodbye to You and mabe the JoBoxers, too...
WOW! Aztec Camera's Somewhere In My Heart, which I saw *once* in 1987 on 120 Minutes! Also, Curiosity Killed the Cat! : looks for anything from Bros :
