Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] musesfool: how does this sound for after the JKR reading in NYC in August?

ETA Ah, ok, I've been told it's dinner-or-nothing. No insane ten dollar cocktails so you can enjoy the atmosphere without having a full meal, at 10 pm, like I was presuming. There's some sort of 40$ menu, but even that seems like overkill at that time of night.

I love downtown NYC. The place sounds good, and if all else fails, there are places in Chinatown or a bit uptown in the East Village for large wandering crowds.

If something materialises, there might be a group of about 15 from [livejournal.com profile] nyc_hpslashers joining up after the reading. We're talking about August 2, right?

I think that would be a little too expensive for me. Cool idea though.

It's so expensive that it's out of the price range for most normal people, dude. And the food is famously incredibly awful.

Actually, the food really isn't bad at all. It's not incredible, but really...no one in their right mind goes there for the food.

However, I totally agree that it's too pricy for most folk.

I wasn;t thinking for dinner, not at 10pm - there's no bar element to it? It's all dinner or nothing?

Sounds like cake or death to me!

I don't know if there's a bar, honestly. All I've heard is that it's expensive and the food's bad, and if I want to blow that kind of cash on what is essentially a theme park experience, I'll go to Magic Mountain, get drunk, and go on the Tilt-A-Whirl. But hey, I live with a food snob who would probably have me killed -by- ninjas if i suggested going to Ninja. Where's the event thingie anyway? Maybe I can suggest places around there.

$100/person... for ninjas?

For that kind of scratch, I think I'd need to be shot in the face by Cheney.

By all accounts, it's awful, too. For that much money, I don't want [bad] food brought to me by ninjas, I want ninja assassins to kill my enemies.

Yeah, I actually expect bad food, or even no food, at high prices. Here in Austin we have a restaurant named Zoot where, for $80, you will be served a warm and empty plate which smells pleasantly of lobster.

What bothers me with this Ninjas place, I have to say, is the failure of imagination.

Ninjas were cliched in the eighties, and these days I demand some more sophisticated form of tawdry restaurant gimmick. Surely the time has come for a restaurant that gives you a tracheotomy and feeds you through a tube?

Ninja is quite awesome, and involves both sneaking around and setting things on fire....but it isn't cheap. If I were you, I'd pick a place that averages out to around $20 a person instead of $60. :/

Uh, are you gonna pick a place with over 21 reqs.?

If you just want a theme resturant, I think that Mars2112 is in the neighborhood and I've heard it's not that much of a rip.
