Porter Goss just resigned from the CIA.
Patrick Kennedy is going into treatment for addiction to something-or-other.

Which is actual news?
Which is CNN bothering to cover?

At least WP.com has Goss in larger type and closer to the top?

But Kennedy is the one whose picture is on the homepage, above the article link. Meh.

It's driving me crazy. Kennedy in rehab is the top story on the B-Globe's site, with Goss' resignation under it and in smaller type. Liberal media bias, my ass.

At least around here the Kennedy stuff (mostly the Capital PD brass' ridicoulous reaction to it) was a top story last night on the 1100 newses, especially all his "I wasn't disorentied or drunk" denials *snort*

What kills me though is the Post's tagline to the Gross headline on the webpage (at least the local version, too lazy to switch to national one to compare):
"President Bush said that the CIA director led "ably" during what he described as a transition phase at the agency" Give me a break

Ah, but see, your definition of news is so old-fashioned. Nowadays, news is all about what can make the talk circuit. If it involves an abducted white girl and/or someone eventually weeping at the Oprah confessional (or whooping and leaping on her sofa), it's news. The American people don't want actual information, you see... they want scandal, emotion, and rehab.

*sigh*

The international version of the Post has Goss at the top of the page, nice big font, and no picture of Kennedy. This is probably because most people outside of the States don't know/care who he is.

(For that matter, I'm not all that sure who Patrick Kennedy is, but he's a Kennedy, and sometimes that's all that really matters, it seems.)
