Remember when Avenue Q beat Wicked at the Tonys and really, they're both really good shows in their own, but different ways?

I think it's sorta like that.

Or it's just that Crash had a larger cast - and squad of producers! - and thus more people with a vested interest in it winning and hence, voting for it.

That's kind of what we thought in our little chat group last night. Crash was just a lot "bigger" movie. I bet the production credits for Crash were 3 times as long as for BBM. Actually I haven't seen either Crash or BBM; they're both on my to-rent list.

I agree. Both were good movies but one had all of Hollywood in it. I kind of figured it was going to happen.

I've seen both Crash and Brokeback Mountain and can live with Crash as Best Picture winner. Both films were, IMO, deserving of their nominations, and either one was worthy of the actual Oscar. I've given up trying to predict or understand the Academy's mindset when it comes to voting (if something as large as the Academy can be said to have a single midset), so I'm pretty happy simply accepting things as they turned out.

I *am* psyched that Ang Lee won Best Director, though -- it shows that Academy voters recognized how intricate and delicate a hand he had in creating BBM.

*nod* I honestly liked them both. And really, it's not that big a deal. I don't understand the hand wringing.

Two great movies, yeah

I really thought Capote deserved to win, though.

I'm much less upset about it than some people, but then again, I'm one of those people who actually believe that it's an honor to be just nominated.
