My one complaint re the casting decisions they've made for OotP?

They should've had Dan play James.

I'm groovy with the rest of it.

yeah - I know it's being sentimental, but so would I.

Yeah, really, how big of a stretch would THAT have been, to have Dan play one extra scene?? *snorts*

Ick. That type of casting really, really annoys me. I'm very glad that they didn't, even though Harry and James are supposed to look vvery mch alike (except for the eyes, of course).

y'know....I don't think I agree. I think the whole "same actor plays child/parent" thing is way overused to begin with, and JKR take pains to point out that they don't actually look identical...

*ponders*

also, btw -- when do you need that drawing by? Is leaving it 'till the weekend going to be too late?

I can't take it to the printer before Monday anyway, so that's fine. If you have a draft for me to look at before that, groovy, otherwise, Sunday-overnight-to-monday is fine

Eh, I have to disagree there. James isn't supposed to look EXACTLY like Harry--I suppose with a good amount of make-up, they could have made it realistic, but I'm sure they've found a kid with a decent enough resemblance that they seem like related but not twins.

Hmm I'll have to disagree with that one. Maybe I would think different if Dan was a superb child actor but he's not.

I do agree with the poster above that they could have found someone who looked more similar to Dan though.

It is a bit like painting grass green, though it's pretty much on the money that he's no Anna Paquin, as far as the child acting stakes go.

I'm surprised they didn't as well. It just seems SO obvious really.

They should've had Dan play James.

Were you eavesdropping on the conversation Rachel and I were having last night or something? We absolutely cannot understand why Dan isn't playing James with no scar and contact lenses! This makes no sense from a continuity standpoint. That kid doesn't look a thing like Dan. Are they just doing it to avoid the special-effects increase in budget necessary when one person plays twins in a scene? The skimping on special effects--except when they're computer-generated dragons--is getting on my nerves more and more with each new film. This ain't rocket science; folks have been doing this for a long time, at least since Patty Duke played identical cousins, if not longer. Ergh.

You know, my first impression was that they should have had Dan play young James, but when I stopped to think about it, I was glad they decided against it.

Of course, I was more excited by the guy they got to play Kingsley. Much Raiders of the Lost Ark love there!

But isn't Dan in the scene? He can't play both!

Sure it's possible - look at the Parent Trap, or the Time Turner scenes in PoA.

Yes -- and look at Battlestar Galactica. They have actress Grace Park play something like nine difference copies of herself in one scene.

Yeah, I think I would have liked Dan as young James. They could have had his hair be flatter, and then have him keep mussing it up!
