I skated for the first time in about 14 years.

Harry's started taking lessons, and I used to enjoy it, even when I
wasn't especially competent, so I thought I'd pull on the (public
rink's) skates again today and give it a try.

After one turn round the rink while clinging to the wall, I started
letting go to round the corners, then to cross the short end. I finished
with three full turns before my ankles were screaming with the agony of
a thousand suns, and I had to get off the ice, but it was fun! And I
think I'll go with Harry again next week.

Yay! Personally, I think being out on the ice is the greatest feeling in the world, so it always makes me happy to hear about other people enjoying skating :)

I've never tried ice skating. I'm always afraid I'll break both my ankles.

Now you should go sledding!! Of course you'd need some snow first :D

Haha! YES. I used to skate as a kid -- took lessons and everything -- and would love to get back on the ice. Go you!

Heh - I was realising just the other day that it had likewise been fifteen years since I was last on ice skates. I'd like to take MiniPlu someday soon - we'll see who falls down more!

You are such a t000000000b! :D My ankles DIE when I try to ice skate. Too many injuries playing softball.

I haven't been skating in years, either. The ankle thing makes it a less than pleasant experience, in my memory. But yay, I'm glad you had fun!

I used to love ice skating. I want to go skating again, but it's been over twenty years. I'm so afraid I'll fall on my arse.

You go girl!!!

Cool! (heh.) I learned to ice skate about 10 years ago, but I haven't skated for at least 7. It terrifies me.

Ooh, skating's a lot of fun, I've been meaning to get back to it but haven't yet.

Hey, would you do me a favor (not that you have any free time, I understand, but if you have a moment) and look at my most recent LJ post? I came up with an idea of something to occupy some of the fandom's energy until book 7, and I'd appreciate your thoughts on it. Thanks! (And of course if you like the idea, feel free to pimp it!)

My only recommendation is to lace the skates as tightly as possible. I took skating lessons for over ten years, competed and all, and I still have trouble in rental skates. The ankles are just shot from all the use.

Good luck! I have to get back out on the ice one of these days--there's a new rink in Bryant Park I've been meaning to try...

Heh! I don't know whether to be inspired or terrified . . . C has been bugging me for ages to take him skating, and I just can't quite bring myself to do it yet. It's been about a decade since the last time I was on skates, and that wasn't an entirely successful outing. (I was a decent skater when I was a kid, but that was a LONG time ago). :D

Maybe I'll work up the courage to take C sometime soon. He'll have you to thank for it, if I do. :)
