We've heard from a bunch of people today about "server busy" messages in FictionAlley Park. The server isn't actually busy, and we don't know why people are getting this message, but a lot of people have had good results clearing their cache - that seems to fix it.

You can hit "refresh" six or seven times and see if that helps. If it doesn't, hopefully the instructions at http://www.dmia.org/tutorial/basic_internet_tut/cache_tut.html will explain it.

And please let us know if you're still having problems.

This is what I'm getting:

The server is too busy at the moment as we upgrade our entire fic intake and hosting system, and install our lovely new search page with the help of thousands of hundreds of dozens of a few House Elves techies. Please wait a minute, then try again.

I cleared my cache and evertyhing, and rebooted 3 times! *flails*

I'm having the same results -- cleared the cache, rebooted, hit refresh 'til my finger was numb, and still can't get past the "Busy, please call again" message. I'm using Firefox 1.5.

It's weird, because I am using Firefox - but 1.0.7 - and it's working fine. It's possible that 1.5 works badle with vb - it came out so recently, we hadn't tested it.

I just tried it using first Safari 2.0.2 and then IE 5.2 and was able to access FAP with no trouble. It seems like it might be a bug in the new Firefox then.

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but I've noticed that if I am in FA and try to open FA in second browser window, I get the server busy message and it won't work again until I clear my cache/cookies. I'm using Firefox 1.0.7.

I'm having problems and having to keep clearing my cookies which is an absolute pain. I'm using IE6 but once I'm in, I'm OK for a while but then I get the server busy message again

I sorted out the 'server busy' message after a few attempts. Just wanted to say I love what you've done with FA - the new fic search and story management facilities are really good. I like having all my fics on one page, and it's great to be able to make changes to things like the summary. Well done to all at Fiction Alley!

I like the new search engine; was able to find my new obsession, which is Harry/Hermione fics, with a minimum of hassle. I think what bothered me most, the last time I went to the site, was doing a search by ship and winding up in a forum. I'm not a forum/message board person, so that was disconcerting.

I like the color coding for the different categories and I LOVE the fact that you've made humor a category. Sometimes a person wants to laugh, and I can go right to the funny stuff here. I also like that novel length fics are given their own space. Sometimes I don't have time for an epic; sometimes it's exactly what I want.

Thanks also for not having horrible orange font on a black background. White background and black text is easiest for me to read. The strong colors used to differentiate the various archives works well too.

I'll definitely be spending more time reading here - I haven't found anywhere else with such a large supply of Harry/Hermione stories. Given that I write and browse slash, that's not surprising, though. The changes are a vast improvement, in my humble opinion.

Blessings,

Jadzia
