We have left our house and headed to a hotel here on Miami Beach, because the threat of a month without power, including hot water, makes us have the colliwobbles. And it's not like it is when 50% of the city doesn't have it so you can go to a friend's to do the laundry or take a shower - as of this afternoon NINETY per cent of the city doesn't have power, and it's the same in the county to the north. Plus we have a boil water order for the city, which means we can't even really let the kids into the tub or shower in case it gets into their mouths. So, no. And FP&L has restored power for most of the keys - it seems that they were *prepared* for restoration there, but not so much prepared for most of dade & broward ALSO being very impacted by this Category Three hurricane, so they're not very set to FIX things here. Not sure what's up in Naples, though.
Not sure what's the plan for the rest of the week - we have no school through October 31, so I am trying to talk my mom into coming with me back up to Disney, but Aaron has to be back in the office tomorrow - his Ft Lauderdale office lost about 20 windows on the two floors, so that is closed for the rest of the month, as are the courts, but his office itself is actually open. The parks are all full of trees, the museums are closed for a few more days, so there's just not so much to *do* here. Will see. But internet is happening, yay, and the movie thing in the hotel has Hitch Hiker's Guide *and* Star Wars, so at least we can be amused within the room.
All in all, we're glad to be safe and sound - we're just hoping that FP&L gets their act together, and SOON!

Sounds like a great time for a trip, if Aaron can swing the time. California is always nice.

Date: 2005-10-25 09:46 pm (UTC)NBC was saying they've restored about 60K in Dade already, but about 200 substations were damaged - that's more the root of the problem.
