It's 10pm on October 24 and I don't know when this will be sent through. My cell is out of juice, not like it matters as it hasn't worked in 11 hours anyway - nor has my sidekick. They worked thru the storm but I think that when the batteries on the cell towers ran out, they both stopped connecting.
Our house is fine - we lost some roof tiles and a bunch of trees in whole or part, and we've been without power for about 17 hours. 98% of the county has no power. And they say it may be four weeks before power is restored through the area but if that's the case, I don't know what we'll do. We've talked about going to palm beach for a few weeks, if that's the case, or doing like my parents did after Andrew and moving into a hotel.
I don't know when I'll be back or even seriously contactable. I don't know what my afkness will mean for the new fic intake system on FA or the plans for GOFIMAX events on Saturday, November 19, but I should at least have a clue by Wednesday.
Y'all probably know more than we do. Thanks to everyone who gave me updates this morning - they were great until the handheld de-connected. I hope I'm back soon...

Hi Heidi,

Fran and I are chatting a bit about hte new system, and it's pretty low in importance compared to you being ok after Wilma. I hope the power is restored quicker than they think it will be.

Four weeks without power??? That's a horrifying prospect.

I assume that that's referring to the more remote sections of the community, rather than buit up conurbations. But even so, it sounds as though you guys really took a hit with that storm :-(

I've been thinking about you, Heidi, and the other Floridians on my f-list. I'm glad you're okay; here's hoping the power does not take very long to be restored. ♥

Wishing you and your family all the best. That must be horrible - being uprooted AGAIN with a tiny baby!

Glad you all are safe!

Yes, the potential loss of power was as big a motivator in our evacuation from Rita as anything else. Bryce lived without power after Allison for weeks and weeks and it's *miserable*! Especially in Aug/Sept when it's still so raging hot, but even now, it won't be any fun at all. So, I hope you guys are able to get somewhere that you can be comfortable until everything is restored for you. In any case, glad you are safe and that your house didn't suffer much damage! Take care!!!

By your post, I don't know if you'll see this. Checked the FPL site. It had the following:

Outage Numbers by County as of 6 am - 10/25

Miami-Dade
Out: 915,600
Restored: 40,900
Affected: 956,500

Checking the FPL site for Joe's Stone Crab I got this:

The equipment servicing your location has been repaired.

If you are still without power, Make sure your circuit breakers are reset. Your circuit breakers are located in your breaker panel and the main line switch is located in either your breaker panel or outside by your meter.

1.Turn off equipment and appliances you wish to protect.

2. Locate your breaker panel and main line switch.
The main line switch is either on the breaker panel or outside by your meter.

3. Place the breakers and main line switch to OFF

4.Turn the main line switch and breakers to ON

If this does not restore your power, please call us at 1-800-4OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243).

As a side note: We had the power come on two days after Charley. It went out within 15 minutes. The next day, came on again. Off again ~ 15 mins later. Come to find out...one of our neighbors hooked his generator up to the main power line. The KUA (local electric company) workers had fixed the problem, but the guy's hook-up kept popping the circuit breaker. Several neighbors went around the neighborhood carrying flashlights (reminiscent of the villagers carrying torches) because the KUA workers told them of the problem. The only way they found the guy was that his porch light was on. Fortunately (or unfortunately in my mind), they didn't drag him out of his house. :) The next day...our power came back.

Fortunately, it is not 90 degrees now...will lose food (unless you have a generator yourself), but won't have to sweat through 4 days of FL summer heat. Hope you get it back soon...
