After the hurricane

Here's our back yard- we lost a lot of branches but only one smaller
tree. We haven't had any power in 14 hours, though, so we're off to a
hotel for the duration, as it might be another 48, and with my and
Cate's cold we'd rather be where it's cooler.

Handheld is still working but I need to plug it in within the next three
hours to keep it on. If we're not at the hotel by then, I'll be off for
a bit...

I'm glad that it was only that bad and that you all are ok. A bit of a clean-up and I see you are experiencing the joys of a 3-day power outage. Went through that with Charley...and Florida in August w/o power isn't fun.

Wondering if the 'scams' that were played out in S Florida last year will effect FEMA policy this year when there is actual damage? That's the problem; all those people who made false claims last year forced FEMA to tighten their procedures so you'll probably start hearing complaints that FEMA isn't helping people quick enough as a result. Sad that a few can make it hard on everyone.

Stay high and dry and 'try' to get out without cleaning out the mini-bar! ;)

I'm in much the same state, recharging everything at work; the building itself is on genny, for the PCs only really. The only air conditioning we have is inadequate mobile units.
