Fandom Stuff:
bloginabox has been created by
darkillusion and
vanillaskin, to do a blogathon on August 6, where the money raised will go to support FictionAlley. I am just overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness and generosity - it's donors like them, and other who contribute via our donation page which have managed to keep FA's fic pages completely ad-free, and allowed us to limit the ads on the rest of the site to fandom things like Alivans, and google text ads, which are relatively unobtrusive. You can still get in on the project, too, if you want to Blog for FA (plus, they have cute icons).
Speaking of fundraising on FA, thanks to everyone who bought copies of HBP via FA's Amazon associate thingy, we made close to $200 in July from sales of that book. If you still want one of the audio versions or the deluxe version of any of the books, they're all still at nice discounts, and a portion of your purchase helps FA.
And we have an update on the wristband sales, now that I'm back in Miami and can access stuff. Thanks to an incredible donation from Galadriel Waters, who writes the HP Hints books, we managed to raise over six thousand dollars, which is technically enough to fund the scholarships for the next three years. In other words, we made our goal. So, we're changing it. Our new goal is to raise $12,500 by the end of 2005, so the scholarships can be endowed, and we won't have to raise new funds each year to cover the scholarships themselves. In other words, it will make them perpetual. I think, given what we hope to do for GoF (GOFIMAX around the world, anyone?) it's do-able. At some point this fall, we'll be asking those of you in cities where there are IMAX theaters and no FA mods if you're able to volunteer to sell some on the Saturday after GoF opens, at your local IMAX theater. But that can wait for September.

I am looking for someone to work on a graphics project for the Lexicon. I'd
like to redo some of the maps in the atlas section in more of a wizard
style, so I need someone who would be interested in what we might call
"Wizarding Cartography." If you feel that this is something you'd like to
work on, please send me an email with a little about yourself and a small
(.jpg) example of the style you'd use to draw the maps. Send your emails to
this address: steve@hp-lexicon.org and put "maps" in the subject header.
Please note that any maps used by the Lexicon cannot include any copyrighted
images but must be original work by the artist.
