So Zacharias is a descendent of Hufflepuff, then?

In one of the memories, Harry and Dumbledore watch Tom approach a woman named Hepizbah (I know I spelled that wrong... ::tries to get used to new characters::) and her last name is Smith. It's mentioned that she's a descendant of Helga Hufflepuff.

On the other hand, Smith is exactly the wrong name for thinking along these lines.

I got that impression too. Fits with his complete and utter arrogance.

What, because Hufflepuffs are essentially arrogant?

More that last heirs of Hogwarts Founders who know it a bit too well often might turn towards arrogance. I don't think that I see Hufflepuff as being unlikely to have its share of arrogant people - they value hard work, and people who work hard can sometimes have arrogant attitudes towards people who do otherwise.

Not in the slightest, although a case could be made for Ernie being a bit pompous if not overly arrogant.

I noticed that! But it may be that Hufflepuff has many descendents, unlike Slytherin, so perhaps he isn't so important. I don't want him to be important, he's so annoying.
