Introducing new "off topic" forums in FictionAlley (and if you have a suggestion for better names for the forums, please advise!):

"What exactly is the function of a rubber duck?" - Don't know how to iconize? Confused by HTML? Dreaming of a customized LJ mood theme? Shopping for a new cell phone? Here at the Rubber Duck, you can ask questions about tech issues large and small, online and off. Novices and experts are all welcome (although we'd really appreciate it if the experts could help the novices out a bit).

Edukashun Alley - Wherever you live, there's a name for it - high school, Upper Form, Secondary School, college prep. Whatever it's called, if you're between 13 and 19, this forum is for you to talk about school- and life-related topics.

Ackademmic Alley - This forum is for current, rising and recent college students of all ages.

Frantick Alley - Those trapped in (or approaching) the zone of thesis, dissertation, residency, law journals, apprenticeships and the dream of publication...

PotterParents - This is the message board version of the Potter Parents Yahoogroup and LiveJournal.

The Teachers' Common Room - If you're a teacher, media specialist, librarian or any type of educator, this forum is for you! Share thoughts about teaching the Potter books, being an HP fan in and out of the classroom, and any other topics of interest to your peers!

All the forums are just getting off the ground, so come and take a peek and post among your peers.

What a great idea! Frantick Alley is definitely right up my alley.

Do you guys need mods? If yes, where could I apply? :D

I am not sure if Edukashn Alley etc are good forum names, considering that we demand basic spelling skills from our users. I know that it comes from Rowling's puns herself (Knockturn/Nocturne), but in her case the puns are real words or at least made up from real words. Edukashun is spelling gone horribly, horribly wrong.

My sentiments exactly!

I must admit it seems awfully odd to see such words used when FA has always prided itself on the idea - and the instruction to all posters - that they use basic grammar and at least attempt to spell things correctly. I do realise that there is leeway given for those whose first language isn't English, but surely this will be just as confusing to someone who posts with English as a second language?

I can see this giving some elements carte blanche to just throw the idea of using basic sentence structure and such like straight out the window and what a headache for the mods that will be. Do they point out FA's posting policies on one board only to have those not adhered to on another board?

These are straight off the top of my head (and probably crap as well) but how about something like,

Secondary Alley/Salutations or perhaps Mandrake Musings?
Tertiary Temptations
Devil's Snare for Frantick Alley perhaps?

*shuffles off*

Well, nobody has ever tried that argument in the three years that we've had the t00b top shoppe, or in the few years where we've sold stuff that says "theirloveissocanon...", etc. But since four people have made the exact same argument using pretty much the exact same phrases, I'm sure it will be changed shortly.
