Between the releases of Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix, the fandom exploded from a thousand of so people participating in online discussions and a few hundred fanfic readers and writers, to tens of thousands of people talking about the books and films, and thousands of fanfic writers and fans. How did the transformation impact stories that were in progress before the release of Goblet of Fire? What was the impact of OotP on stories that were still in progress then, but which had been based on assumptions and predictions made by the authors in the wake of Goblet of Fire? And how did individual authors change their plots, their characters and their thoughts about canon in the wake of the release of Book Five?
These questions will be answered by the panelists, not just in prosaic discussion, but also by reading brief sections of stories that were written before the release of Goblet of Fire and/or Order of the Phoenix; some panelists will compare their fanfic writing before the release of Book Five with their writing afterwards.
As this panel will take place well after the release of Book Six, Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince, the panelists will also examine whether the shorter wait between books five and six resulted in a different type of impact on fanfiction writers and readers. It may include a brief reading of drabbles by each panelist written since the release of HBP.
