Dear Newbies (ie those who've joined the fandom since 2002):

Why, I remember the days when you had to do buy a ticket to some crap film like Scooby Doo if you wanted to hear whether Dan Radcliffe's voice had changed between PS/SS and CoS. Where you had to almost lie to the manager to get your money back if you and [livejournal.com profile] epicyclical left after the trailers and five minutes of film - although it wasn't really a lie because you did have a headache from the total badness of that Scooby-film.

I remember when you had to at least trek *by* a movie theater if you wanted to see the preview poster, and when photos of said posters caused great excitement & glee!

Fans these days don't know how easy they have it!

I'll drink a butterbeer to that! I wasn't in the fandom then, but I remember when I snuck in to see the Star Wars Episode I trailer and got caught. Ah memories. :)

Ugh that was E II wasn't it? I hated Hayden's "serious" acting scenes in that one, I can barely watch it! lol

Yah I was going say something about people buying tickets for Will Smith's 'Enemy of the State' Thanksgiving 1998, just to see the 'Phantom Menace' trailer.

Will Smith had the audacity to say he didn't need Big Willie Weekend to have a hit at the box office. He sais something about people willing to see him even when's it not a summer movie or something like that. Right, Will... you keep telling yourself that.

:)) I had to rely on other people's reports. No amount of HP trailerage was going to make me pay for Scooby Doo.

AHAHAHAHA. I went to see Scooby Doo at the drive-in just so I could see the trailer and then leave without disturbing anyone. :))

YES, but did you have to walk by the movie theater in the snow? Uphill? Both ways?

My kid was old enough at that point to make me sit all the way through Scooby Doo. It was punishment. Pure hell. It's so much easier now to see the trailer!

Hey you kids! Get off my darn lawn! I remember when trailers were a mixed bag and no one ever knew what was attached to which movie. You could get a stinker like "Nighthawks" or something cool like an Indiana Jones trailer.

Humph! Fans these days...

One of the things I liked most about the Star Wars three-pack of DVDs was the chance to see the original trailers & tv commercials. Now that's my kind of nostalgia trip!

I remember when there wasn't a fandom...1999. Well, I guess there was, but it wasn't even remotely close to what it is today. I remember when the movies were announced and I wasn't sure whether to dance with joy or be very, very afraid for the books.

...I even remember when the first pictures of Daniel, Rupert, and Emma came out. I was incredibly disappointed in at least one of the castings, which turned out to be my favorite one.

Which movie was it where the first trailer to PS/SS came attached? I don't think it was a good one...but I know I saw it three times. >.< Scooby-Doo was thankfully only twice.

What baffles me is the fans that don't read the books and still consider themselves obsessed/fanatics/etc. There's nothing particularly WRONG with it...it's just...weird.

See Spot Run, which I can't even conjure up a mental image of. I didn't go see it there - I waited and saw it on something else a week later, but I can't recall what.

Ha, no, actually, that wasn't the movie I saw it on. The movie theatre I usually go to messed up the trailers and it wasn't in front of See Spot Run, it was in front of something else.

Ugh. That's going to bother me. I'll think of it eventually.

Did they have fire back then or did you have to check out the poster at the theater during the day time? Squeeee! It's good to be young!!! ;)

So, did you like the trailer?

No, no I wouldn't it. ;) It's quite good. Have to post what you think about it....hopefully the good and the bad. Notice that alot of the people on TLC's boards are complaining about the non-canon stuff (D/B schools entrance into the Great hall, hermione's dress, Harry's eyes again). Ya'd think they had better things to do or post positive with negative. At least they could argue about something important. Like a comma! ;)

I hadn't when I posted the above, but I have now. I guess I don't even care about deviations from the books anymore; they're a reinterpritation, and that's about it.

Given my lack of access to theaters and/or theaters with English posters, previews and films, you have no idea how happy it makes me that we are no longer in the good old days...

Ah...I remember those days. I think they had a certain air of fun. I saw Scooby-Doo multiple times, as a matter of fact, just so I could see the trailer. I really don't know how I did it.
