Look! Little Women fanfic! In novel form! Like, officially published!

I am amused, but I will only actually purchase it if, in it, the March parents decry Amy's marriage because Laurie was meant for Jo.

Does anyone know?

I'm always deeply wary of stuff like this ever since I read a truely terrible sequel to Du Mauriers' "Rebecca", entitled Rebeccas' Tale". I get a bit leery of published authors doing things like that (although Pride and Promiscuity was good fun in parts, have you ever read that? Made me laugh and wince at the same time)

I did like Wide Saragasso Sea, but the best - um - bits - in Pride & Promiscuity were the Emma ones, especially the one with the boys.

The Reason Why

Alcott's publishers told her that Jo had to marry or they would not finish publishing the novel (it came out in 4 parts over time.) She had had no intention of Jo marying anyone. So in order to get her work out there and feed her family she had her mary the German professor instead. I found out about this from Dani one of the producers from Little Women on Broadway. http://littlewomen.typepad.com

I've seen "pride and prejudice" sequels published by a modern day author. I can't bring myseld to read them, though

Wasn't he a chaplain? That's what I always assumed. I know he was a minister, because he officiated Meg's wedding.

Yeah, I think so. So maybe it's his point of view as a chaplain in the Union Army. Hmmm....

Oooh, exciting. Maybe there's still hope for us fanfic writers.

Laurie and Jo would kill each other but it would be such a pretty relationship.

That was the biggest disappointment for me. I know Jo and the Professor are probably better suited to each other, but still...

Did you know that there are several published to Pride and Prejudice: Pemberley (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0312107935/qid=1110824211/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/102-2909060-7252912?v=glance&s=books), Letter from Pemberley (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0595276954/qid=1110824211/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-2909060-7252912?v=glance&s=books) and Mr Darcy takes a wife (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1402202733/qid=1110824211/sr=2-3/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_3/102-2909060-7252912). The second and third of these have reasonable reviews, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to read them. Rebecca has another sequel (not the one mentioned above) by Susan Hill called Mrs Dewinter (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0380721457/qid=1110824506/sr=2-3/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_3/102-2909060-7252912).

I was heart broken that Laurie and Jo weren't together. I was 9 when I read it, and I noticed the chemestry!
