I have over 8000 emails in my SPAM section of my gmail account. Now, all my FA Help and TLC Staff emails go to this box, and given their high profiles, we do get a lot of spam at both locations, but 8000 spam emails in one month?

And to get rid of all of them, I have to go 100 by 100 to delete forever via gmail?

Man, I'd pay for a 1-1000 view, so I could toss 1000 at once. Anyone know how to tweak gmail to do that? I need to, before I download my gmail account into Outlook...

The ability to delete more than 100 e-mails at a time is one of the features that GMail's considering in their "Suggest a feature" link. Perhaps if enough people suggest it, they'll implement it.

Actually, with the POP3 download, gmail doesn't pass on the stuff in the Spam folder...

I have gMail synced with Thunderbird, and it works quite well - I had a problem with the initial download of messages (it seems that either Thunderbird or Gmail couldn't handle more than 256Mb of messages in the queue), so I had to download a chunk, then delete those off the server manually (pain), and then download again.

Rinse. Repeat.

But once the inbox was up to date locally, the connectivity's seamless. The downside, of course, is that I don't have the messages on the server any more, so everything's local (a pain when I use gmail from home and work, normally), but I'll live with that.

You can set Thunderbird to keep messages on the server, or to delete them after a certain number of days.

Actually, no: there seems to be some kind of threshold on how much information the pair will exchange between them. Certainly, once everything's up to date, you can set the delete options as you like, but the only way I could download 333MB of email was to do it in chunks, and then manually delete stuff off the server so that on the next connection, the remaining emails could be retrieved.

Messy, and took me ages to figure out that it'd work, but it did, at least, achieve the desired result.

:-)

I'd like to wish you a happy birthday, too, even if it's still the 14th here as well! I was going to send you an ecard, but all the good ones are in Portuguese, so I thought you might mistake it for spam or something...since the notifications are also in Portuguese. Anyway, I wish all the best for you and your family :) Happy Birthday!

Hee! This is SO cute! Sorry your regular one isn't up, but...

Hmmm. Maybe I'll friend this one, too?

Also, do you need a tutorial still on how to filter your LJ email into a separate account?

Ummm, yes I do; I'm utterly clueless how to do that.

You can friend the RP journal but it's not terribly active. Still, it might entertain -- Lord Peter is carrying on an on-again-off-again affair with Remus Lupin in Milliways :D

As usual a week behind on LJ reading... Happy Birthday! And thanks for the heads-up about POP access on GMail. Last I remembered, it was only web access. Makes me reevaluate it as an email account for HPFGU emails.

As to spam, I never released my GMail address and still have nearly thirty spam messages, but I suspect it's because I have an 'easy' address to randomly generate.

Thanks for the good wishes! And yes, gmail is great for that kind of archiving!
