There's been such an outpouring of support that it seems enough has been donated to replace the computers (thanks to offers from two Apple Store staffers to use their friends&family discount, which drops the prices nicely). I know I said people could contribute through the 19th, but I had no idea we'd get enough so quickly. So if you haven't sent yet, but had wanted to, your good wishes are appreciated and if you could instead donate to a charity, or wait a few hours for us to post the info about what [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge says we should call the Action Figures Action drive and send in a toy or two to that, it would be great. If you still want to click the PayPal button (below) and donate that way, you'll be on the same list as everyone else, which I'm going to give to Cassie, Josh & Ruby either later today or tomorrow, once I get a handle on the whole pasting-paypal-info-into-a-spreadsheet thing.

Love to all!

Can we donate specifically for the action figures/toys for Ruby's children's ward?

Yes - I'll have the donation info this afternoon, too.

I only wish I weren't in such dire straits this year, as I would've been happy and proud to help out. *sigh*

Oh, yes, hon, of course they will! Just post in Cassie's LJ and say so, or if you were going to give via the paypal thing you'll still be on the same list as everyone else - it's just like I said last night - anything over the computer costs will go to the toy drive.

You just said not to bother contributing to the group thing anymore, though, and that we should just make our own donations somewhere else. Am I really not reading that right?

It's all going to the same place anyway. I clarified it - I didn't mean to make it appear that I had closed the paypal option.

Um, okay. Because yeah, it certainly sounded to me like you were saying "Thanks to everyone who offered to contribute, but we have plenty, so don't bother anymore. Contribute somewhere else if you really want." It really does sound like that.

Sorry, so tired this AM.

I saw your post about being tired. Urgh. I'm tired, and PMSed to boot, so my apologies for being bitchy. Just felt like this drive was only for people who aren't trying to do nine million other things at the same time. There's still kind of a "do they really need anything after all?" feel to it, but I just chipped in $6 so ... use it for whatever. (Incidentally, you've said to use the PayPal button 'below', but there isn't one. Had to comb through your prior posts to find it.) Sorry it's not more - have been contributing to a lot of needy fandomers over the past few months and, with the holidays, renovations, adoption, and I still need to get my FA donation in, I'm feeling tapped out.

Mer, I know it was so short - I never expected it to be so speedy, not at all. I think Sam's plug in his LJ sped the whole thing to all corners of the fandom - my gosh, the man has about 1200 people who've friended him. It's amazing!

I sent a money order...

I know I'm late, but I decided to contribute some money anyway. Even if you don't need the money anymore for the computers, I figured you can send the extra money you received to charity or something like that.
It is the holiday season afterall.

Hey, Heidi. I've been lurking for a long time and just decided to post after i made this icon. I figured y'all would like it. What'dya think? It's a quicky, but it'll do. This was a wonderful thing for you to do for Cassie and Co. and I'm sure that they appreciate it. I would've donated, but, alas, I donated my donation quota anonymously to my grandmother, who lost her house in Ivan. She needed it more than I do, and I know she appreciates it. Anyway, you're a really great friend to Cassie. But you already knew that...

Hey, heidi!
Thanks for taking a look. Just credit it to "Sharper Slogan Designs," j/k, that's the name thing that i put on all of my cds: S for my first name, Sarah. Harper is my last name. Logan is my middle name. Neat-o, no? But just credit it to, I dunno...my screen name i guess. 'sarahmalfoy222' But, yeah, hope they enjoy it, esp. cassie. If she hasn't seen it yet, let her know it's there. If she wants me to make her more, i will. I'm glad that you think it's cool.

you might want to either specify what the extra on top will be used for or set up a fund for a specific charity so people have an idea where it is going to.

We did that in my post on Sunday evening. I don't want to make the name of the hospital public, though - I feel that it's asking for stalkers against Ruby.

If one hospital ends up with enough, the rest go to another NYC hospital, or are saved until they need more. So I think that's how it's going to be allocated at this point. They can defnitely use it!

We've been talking about something along those lines and I'm personally split as to whether making such an offer is insulting or uplifting. And it's also really hard to make those distinctions just because of the sum - someone sent 12 cents because it was sitting dormant in his paypal account, not, from his email, because he couldn't afford to give more. Someone else may've sent 10 dollars that s/he could really have personally used.
So what I'm trying to say is, it's a good idea in theory, but I'm not sure how to best handle it.

This is a kind of rude question, and I apologize for asking, but I was concerned, because I've heard in a couple places that Ruby had patient information and prescriptions on her laptop, and I wanted to know if it was just rumor or if it were true. I mean, I'm sure if it's so, her laptop was a work laptop and she had permission from patients, but I'm just hoping she doesn't get into trouble, given the insane medical privacy laws that are around these days.
