Continuation of my griping here, this weekend, I learned that while both the 1984 and the 2004 versions of Do They Know It's Christmas? are available on the UK iTunes store, neither are available stateside. And supposedly, they won't be at all.

HAHA man that sucks! I have two versions of the original 1984 version. One is just the song as they would play on radio or whatever and the other is a 6 minute version that has holiday wishes from the performers in the middle of the song. Want me to send to you?

I love that song. It made me make a whole post about it the other day. <3

My understanding of the matter is that if you delete your credit card details from the account information they are gone, right?

So what is to stop me creating an alternative account, putting my details in, downloading the songs, deleting the details, giving you the password and you paying back by paypal?

Rinse and repeat each time songs are required.

Er, nothing? Let's try it with just two songs first, though - both band aid ones.

Any chance of passing along some of the BNL album via yousendit, or something like that? I haven't the money for a holiday album right now, but am really curious to hear this one. I was a big BNL fan back in the day, like mid 90s when you Yanks hadn't heard of them yet ;), and it's funny that they'd put out a holiday album now - I suppose they can.

Some of us had. ;) First show I saw (in Seattle) was on the Born on a Pirate Ship tour, and I felt like a total newbie compared to the friends who brought me, who'd been going to their club gigs in Colorado for ages....

Hee. Born on a Pirate Ship was the last album of theirs I bought; I just googled and realized the first concert of theirs I saw must have been early 1992. But then again, I lived around Toronto, and that's where they were from.

I think we went to too many concerts, because I lost interest after that. But them doing Christmas/Hanukkah stuff is catching my eye. :)

right. It's sort of like how things were for me with Moxy Früvous, who I first heard shortly before Bargainville came out; I didn't see them in concert until much later. But, again -- I'm way the hell over here, nearly 3,000 miles away in another country. ;) No, I wasn't in on the ground floor, exactly, but considering where I am, I was about as early and attentive about things as I could've been.

I think we went to too many concerts, because I lost interest after that.

It hasn't been the same the last few years as it was when I first saw them, because that was a really good timeframe -- they'd moved up to small theaters, with enthusiastic crowds who knew their stuff, but the concerts had enough casual banter and mixing things around (good lord, how long has it been since I've heard Jim sing lead on anything...) that it felt like a small, intimate, we're-all-friends-here kind of thing. These days it's way too produced. Ah well....

Band Aid 2004 is a pretty soulless production anyway, its good purpose notwithstanding.

Agreed. I caught it this morning on CD:UK, cried out 'Oh Bono, Bono, Bono, what have you done?' and attempted to beat myself to death with the remote control.

But what is that thing on your mood icon? After I stared at it a while I could make it look like some kind of purple rock-creature who is looking upward and wailing, but then it's either spitting out a stream of something or catching some stream of food.

This is going to bother me.

Or maybe it's a wad of aluminum foil with a stick in it.

BNL did a Hanukkah song??? when?? and why didn't I ever hear about it? I thought I had a radar on them, being a dual citizen and all :)

For what it's worth, BNL also do a cover of Do They Know It's Christmas...
