Posting a poll via email. Meep.
So my ultrasound will be next Thursday - the same time that Jon turns 18 months, actually.

We are going to find out the gender if we can, and I'll happily post the info here that afternoon if we can tell from the ultrasound. Our feeling is that a boy would be so easy, and a girl would be quite cool. But I'm wondering what people guess this is. Hence...

[Poll #391133]

No prize for winners - just the glee of guessing right.

Interesting factoid -- did you know that statisically (and according to my father the obstetrician), your chances of having a baby of the opposite sex to your existing children around about halves with every succesive same sex child?

For instance:

First child - 50% chance of either boy or girl.

If the first child is a boy - 25% chance of chance of a girl.

If the second child is a boy also - 10% chance of a girl.

If the third child is boy also - less than 5% change of girl.

My sister found all this fascinating when she was trying for her third child. Against the odds, (having had two boys) she had a little girl. I was so surprised! But in the very very good way.

:D

I've never heard of this, and the stats wouldn't really be easy to determine given the number of pregnancies that end in miscarriages. I mean, I know someone who's on pregnancy #3 - her first two ended in miscarriage. Would her likelihoods be the same, assuming the first two she carried were the same genger, as my likelihood would supposedly be, even though she's never carried to term, and I have twice?

Well, a boy would mean that you wouldn't have to buy new clothes.

On the other hand, there's a greater selection of cute outfits for girls. :D

Now now - don't be gender-biased.

Why *can't* a little girl wear little boy's clothes? It's not like they're checking themselves out in the mirror, right?

I find that boys' clothes are not very colorful. Lots of earth tones and somewhat on the boring side. :P

I'm sure it's just an old wives tale, but I've always heard that if your arms get hairier during pregnancy, it's a boy, and if not, it's a girl... my mother claims it has something to do with baby boy's testosterone levels affecting dear old mommy
