Caught up? Maybe?
Oct. 26th, 2004 12:13 pmFirst,
I'm not sure I'll ever be able to catch up! But I can at least post my own bio-plug and try and scan through a few of the pages, right?
Why? I'm always pleased to meet/be friended by/have introductions to/chat with fans of HP!
Likes:
characters - Always Harry, usually Hermione, sometimes Ron but never in GoF. Perpetually Lupin. Rarely Dumbledore. Never Hagrid (at least not in terms of "finding him interesting). Also enjoy creative examinations of Draco, Sirius, and Social-Climber!Lucius.
Ships - Yes, I do ship Draco/Hermione, and I thought it was potentially going to happen in the books because I thought the parallels between Draco and Mr Darcy, and between Hermione and Elizabeth, were just too darned obvious; then I read Order of the Phoenix. Wanna make something of it? I also ship Sirius/Remus, Harry/Draco, and Draco-is-obsessed-with-Sirius (see Prisoner of Azkaban), but I'll read anything good. Other than Hagrid/Any House Elf. Not sure I could ever get through one of those.
Genres - Anything that isn't (a) too bloody, (b) written in l33t, or (c) features Hagrid/Any House Elf.
Interests - I am a fan of stories inspired by classic plots; I've done some Austenesque HP fanfic myself. I haven't written anything since the Spring, though, and I'm not sure I'll be able to again for a while. I'm also a mom of two - and am pregnant with my third.
Dislikes: Dumbledore, Hagrid-centric fics, Kreacher, fics where the pairing overpowers plot.
LJ features: fandom talk and lawyery things (public) and some personal/family stuff (pretty much all private). Memes are my friends, quizzes, not so much. Don't friend me if you don't want to see occasional political rants, which I hope I'll be able to stop doing in eight days, or babbling about Disney, Crowded House, Kirsty MacColl or, these days, Duran Duran.
Other links: Er. I'm one of the admins for FictionAlley and I mention stuff about the site with some regularity.
I'm always happy to be friended, but I generally read LJ on my sidekick handheld, which doesn't make it easy to friend people (I keep images turned off all the time) so my general policy is to friend people who have friended me, and who post in my LJ at least on occasion; I do a friending spree every 3-5 weeks or so, but I'll try and do one this week as a catch-all. I will definitely friend anyone who friends me & lists both Harry Potter and one of the following as interests: Neil Finn, Crowded House, Split Enz, Aztec Camera, being a mom, Walt Disney World or PENN (where I went to college many, many years ago).
The other thing I should probably post about is basically what
hermione_like posted about here. Yes, I played chaperone for Chris Rankin at Disney this weekend. It was just a relaxing and fun evening, and then we went to Chef Mickey's for brunch the next day. I can say three things about Chris:
(a) He really is a very nice guy
(b) He is great with kids - there was a problem with the elevator in our wing of the hotel, so he kept Jon amused downstairs while Harry and I ran up to our hotel room to pick up some stuff before we left to take him to the airport.
(c) He never made it to hang out at the pool; we just ran out of time the next day.
Unfortunately, Mickey never made it over to our table at the character breakfast the next day, which was unfortunate, but Chris did get to meet Minnie and Goofy and Dale (but not Chip, unfortunately). It was an all around fun weekend and we had a great time in the park on Sunday night. if you ever have a chance to go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, I highly recommend it on a Sunday night - the last time I was there that it was this empty was around eight thirty AM on January 15, 2001, when we went for my 30th birthday and it was quiet enough that I was able to go on the teacups 30 times in a row in celebration (note: it was really dull around Time #18, but I felt compelled to finish the stunt). So nice to have almost all the rides be simple walk-ons. The fireworks were gorgeous, and Jon was only a little scared, poor boo.
