I was driving back from the Seaquarium - harry and jon in the backseat, my mum in the passenger side, north on I-95, and two boxes flew out of the back of the pickup in front of us.

I usually get away from pickups with stuff in the back, but they hadn't been visible - they weren't on the racks and the back was up. I had about half a second to react, and I couldn't move to the left because there was a car, and the boxes had landed to the left and right edges of our lane - we were on the far right, and there wasn't enough space between the lane edge and the wall, given where it landed.

So I swerved a bit to the right then to the left to go around them as much as possible, and got a bit of a brush from one, but I managed to not hit them head on, thank heavens.

Everyone is fine, the car is only slightly scraped, and I did finally stop shaking, after about an hour.

But it was a terrifying half-second. And it puts everything in perspective.

Oddly enough, I was thinking about you as I was putting O to bed, and came down to find this.

I'm telling you, I-95 is EVIL. That entire effing mess of an interstate, and the completely loony S FL drivers on it. I have had so many near-misses while driving along there it's not even funny.

But *hugs* I'm glad you're okay- that must have been terribly frightening. :-*

And it puts everything in perspective.

I'm glad that you're okay and you're alive so that you're aware of things having a perspective! :-) I know what you mean about that--in 2002 I was driving with my two sons to the mall on a windy March day. I slid on an ice patch and flipped the truck twice. We ended up in a ditch, the Jeep totaled, and I only got a concussion. Randy and Eric were fine.

Something like that really makes you appreciate what you have and teaches you not to dwell on the things that don't matter. We have but one life, after all, to do with as we see fit.

So glad you're okay, Heidi!

And I-95 is evil just about everywhere in between Florida and Massachusetts. Once, I was almost run off the road in NC by some ass simply because I was going only 5 mph over the speed limit.

I'm very glad you and your family are all right. Two years ago my mum and I were hit by a bus, but we were on foot. Nothing happened to me, but my mum hit her head and broke her nose, and it was the scariest day of my life. But, these things happen, and we learn to deal with them as they come...hopefully everything turns out all right :)
