I've now spoken to four people - RL friends - who aren't incredibly familiar with the potterverse - one has read the first book only but hasn't seen any of the movies, one's read the first three books and seen the first film, one hasn't read or seen any, and one's seen the first movie and hasn't read any of the books.

And they all got the plot. They all also recognized that there was "something more there" in terms of what all the symbols & in-jokes were, and for that, three of them plan to read the books.

So I think we're seeing that people who aren't In Depth Fans are still getting it. But given that my Harry, who's almost five and has seen both movies and not read - or been read - any of the books in their entirity, got it, I'm not particularly surprised.

Also, I asked my husband what he thought the relationship between Sirius and Remus was, and he replied, "You mean the whole Boys' Boarding School Romance thing? Yeah, I got it."

So now we know!

- that's Remus & Sirius in the Shack, in Emoticon form. More here!

*G* - my son, who is almost 29, has read all the books. He's not into slash (but he loves to tease us about writing fanfic) and he just re-read PoA before going to see the movie and called Annie and I to tell us it was 'fabulous' and ask "When are you going to start writing Sirius/Remus stories, huh? I mean, talk about married."

He took his current girlfriend, who knew nothing about any of the books or movies, and she thought the same thing. So I guess they're outed *G*.

I have to say, I like the fact that knowing that there's SO much more in the books is making people want to read them--that's pretty impressive. I'd not thought of that perspective before; I really liked the movie, even adored some of the changes, but I was disappointed that some 'major things' (to my ickle mind, anyway) were left out. So thanks for the new viewpoint. :)

And I love your icon. *covets*

:::has hands over ears and whistling loudly over all the S/R slash talk::::

Nope, still don't buy it. Will forever be the fandom outcast for refusing to accept R/S.

As CLS says, just because they were snogging in school, it doesn't bar all the future girlfriends...

Oh thank goodness! I'm not so alone! Should we start a mencanhugandnotbeslashed community? I think we could recruit nsmom and sff_corgi to join. We could write about the virtues of mens friendships that stay friendships as a result of both parties heterosexuality, do some slash that does make sense like Peg's Sean/Elias or Aidan Lynch/Viktor Krum, and generally defend the option that S/R is *not* canon. Yep that's just what you and I need....more projects ;)

Thanks for the defense...I feel better.

Oof. Tell me. Am off to update the FA blog! (Since it is supposedly being updated again today, according to the note I put on it before leaving for NYC on Friday. :D)

And I'm perfectly willing, given the right circumstances and backstory, to slash EITHER Remus or Sirius (who, if he was pining for one of his mates was hot for JAMES, not REMUS), but I just don't see them as a couple OR an ex-couple and each not knowing that the other WASN'T the spy/traitor.

I know there were people that were upset with the ommissions from the movie - but I'm actually glad for it - if the movie makes someone hasn't read the books want to read them - I'm all for it!

And love the emoticon (even if I'm not thoroughly convinced of S/R yet)!!!

Stay strong...you can do it, don't succomb to the trendiness of S/R! Barb and I will offer support if you need it (see barb and my comments above)!

Sorry...should stop spamming Heidi's LJ with support of such radical ideas that S/R might just not be a given.

That's a good thing if they're able to understand it because after reading the books, the cut scenes kept me so annoyed like something was missing that general audiences won't understand. Now I know that most of it was just me ^_^!
