Reportedly contained in the Wizard Cards section of the PoA video game:
*Amarillo Lestoat
1776-1977
Flamboyant American Vampire. Author of "A Vampires Monologue"; intended to bore the reader into a stupor making him/her easier prey for vampires."

Heh, anyone think Anne's going to get pissy about this?

*falls about laughing*

Knowing how wanky Anne can be, I reckon she's going to get *very* pissy about it. :D

Wouldn't that require Anne actually knowing about it? ;)

LOL well, I won't get pissy about it, but Anne Rice might. Though I think Ms. Rice has been a bit too busy lately trying not to die from undiagnosed diabetes (according to a recent article on www.nytimes.com) to notice JKR thumbing her nose at her ;)

*cheers for JKR*

Is there recorded animosity between JKR and Anne Rice? Just wondering if there's a backstory here.

Not until now, it seems, but Anne Rice threatens fanfic writers and JKR thinks we're kinda grooovy, so....

She does? I though she was a bit annoyed with the more sexual stuff. Didn't her lawyer send a C&D order to the Restricted Section?

Hm. I'm not sure I'd be willing to categorize what's happened as a definite reflection of annoyance. She did force RS.org and the PSA to put up password protections, and make the fics ungoogleable, so clearly, she doesn't want kids stumbling across NC17 fanfics, but now that the sites have password protections in place, she isn't trying to shut them down or force them to give up the hosting.

I'd think any serious writer would have issues with Anne Rice. Rice publishes first draft, unedited (by herself or anyone else!) books. Heck, I'm not a writer and even *I* have issues with that!

Wow, I didn't know that about Anne Rice.

That explains a lot about her books...

That is... MUST.GET.GAME.NOW.

Now did JKR put those together for the video game, or did the game people?

LMFAO!

i love anne.. i love anne enough to look like a tourist *much my father's emabarassment* and take pictures of the st. elizabeth house she wrote about in 'the mayfair witch' stories... but seriously anne writes and writes and writes and you want yell 'come on, woman, get to the point already!' i swear that woman writes just to see if her hand will cramp up.

I was really, really into Anne Rice . . . when I was 12. Seriously, folks. Yeah, she used to be a talented writer, and I owe my love of all things slashy to her (Cry to Heaven) but the woman personally just irritates me. I mean, I've met her son before through some editor friends of mine and he's the sweetest guy, but you can tell his mother seriously messed with his head. Could you imagine being the son of Anne Rice and try to outdo that? Eurgh.

Other than that: 'Go Jo!'

That is too funny for words! I'm sorry that Rice is having health problems, but she seriously needs to grow a sense of humor about her work. I agree with the part about boring readers into a stupor; I tried to read just a small part of her "Sleeping Beauty" trilogy at Walden's, to find out whether I wanted to buy it (the fanfiction forbidder has written a frigging piece of fanfic about Sleeping Beauty, for crying out loud!) and it was dreadful. I've seen scads of online fanfic writers do far, far better. And perhaps JKR is also tweaking Rice because JKR tolerates fanfic for the most part and Rice thinks she's too good to allow others to play in her universe. I love the idea of "Lestoat." Someone HAS to put this guy in a fic now!

Surely it's a fair parody under the 1st Amendment, at least in the US?

I hope she does get pissy, if only to see the Supreme Court throw it out for being completely ridiculous. Also, I find Ann Rice mercilessly tedious as it is, so, yeah. Ho hum.
