A year ago today...
Jun. 2nd, 2004 05:27 amI was in the hospital. I was technically in labour, as I'd been induced the night before, but the contractions were still seven or eight minutes apart and strong but not very much so. They were going to break my water soon, and then we'd see if I wanted an epidural. and possibly monitor Baby to see how he was doing.
Well, as it turned out, breaking the water sped everything into high gear - it took an hour to get from one to three centemeters, and just two more hours for me to be at ten, and desperate to push (normally, it's supposed to take an hour to dilate two centemeters, not two hours to dilate seven).
And at 11:45 am, Jonathon was born and in my arms and he had practically no eyelashes and these weird fingernails and the softest skin and oh, was he huge!
So when he woke me at 4 this morning, I couldn't go back to sleep. I just wanted to hold him and kiss him and adore him, but he wanted to go back into his crib with his favorite lovey, a little blue dog-blanket-thing named EGGY! and so I let him and so I am here, typing and rereading my birth story post from last year.
When he wakes up in an hour and a half or so, there will be cake.

Date: 2004-06-02 05:07 am (UTC)Happy birthing-day, Heidi! Enjoy your boy! (although really, the cake for breakfast is a nice perk for you, too! :D)
Birth stories always make me weepy. I think it's half sentiment, half remembrance of unspeakable pain.

Date: 2004-06-02 06:28 am (UTC)My son, Silas, turns 3 today. He was born at 1:58 a.m. after I had gone through a nearly 30-hour labor (after 12 hours, I had only dialated 1/2 cm! Piggy-backing contractions! Arg.) I had no epidural or pain-medicine, but did have pitocin to speed up the process a few hours before Silas was born. The pain!
Silas was so tiny (6 lbs 13ozs)when he was born compared to his 37 pounds now!
Its neat that they share a birthday. :)

Or, if you're me, one centimeter per hour. *hugs epidural*
BTW, I'm very impressed that you managed to keep such a good account of the labor experience. (Down to the minute!)
Anyway, enjoy your day!!
