My love for Gateway knows no bounds
May. 19th, 2004 02:42 pmI'm sure some of you have had problems with them in the past about random computer issues, but sometimes, they really do come through!
In October of 2001, I bought a laptop - it was reasonably spiffy for that time period - 10 gigs of space, a reasonable processor speed, etc. About a week ago, the monitor on it gave out completely, so I called gateway, and for about $44, they sent me a box to ship it back to them, because I'd purchased the loffly 3 year parts + labour warranty when I got the computer.
And they can't fix it.
So they're giving me a new one, and loading Windows XP and all the usual Windows programs on it (luckily, I still have my Adobe and Outlook CDRoms and a backup of all my music and all my documents) and sending me back my hard drive in case there's anything I need to pull off of it.
It's going to have a 2+ Ghz processor, 256MB DDR SDRAM, and a 30GB hard drive, as well as a DVD player. Not sure they'll give me one with integrated wireless, but I have a PCMCIA card, so it's not totally vital.
And it's going to be newshinypretty and I will loffloffloff it so much!
And I'll never contaminate it with Kazaa or Comet Cursor or anything! Wheee!

Date: 2004-05-19 05:08 pm (UTC)Considering that the mouse, Ethernet, and CD drive are all having problems (the CD's completely dead), maybe that's a sign it's about to go completely.

Date: 2004-05-19 07:03 pm (UTC)hateenvy you? I have a Gateway Solo 2500 that I bought for $1800 in November 1999. For an extra $250 I got a DVD player (which my husband talked me into saying that I could always watch a movie if I got stuck in a hotel room). The monitor casing is falling apart. There's a hole in the casing right around the latch. I took it on our latest camping trip to Georgia where it was hot, dusty and buggy. Sucker just keeps on going. When it dies, I will cry. But, yeah, I definitely have laptop envy.
