1. From today's Herald:
The same company that kicked shock jock Howard Stern off its radio stations to stem ''the rising tide of indecency'' owns a billboard seen everyday by more than 100,000 South Florida road jockeys -- some of them shocked and puzzled by its message.

This is what the ad on the billboard says: FCUK FM.

The billboard promotes French Connection United Kingdom and their new British-music-promoting radio station here in South Florida - the FCUK store is about a block from my office, and their store signage also has the same language on it.

The billboard doesn't really bother me; what bothers me is Clear Channel's obvious hypocracy in this. An "anti-indecency" attorney here in Miami agrees - "For Clear Channel, which is portraying itself as the good guys, the Carrie Nation of the decency movement, to be doing this is just hypocritical. They're out of their minds."

So that's the annoyingstupidugh stuff.

2. On the flip side - those of you who are furious with Virginia, and planning to avoid the state as long as their (badly written, likely unconstitutional) law is on the books - come to Miami Beach! Our city is writing laws right now to bar a type of contract, too - the city will not be allowed to contract with companies that don't offer domestic partnerships to their employees (and independent contractors, afaik, as well). They're also working on laws which will bar discrimination against transgendered people - currently, our city laws don't include them specifically, although there is a bar on discrimination based on sexual orientation, which arguably covers it although not to the degree that some advocates wish.

So when you're chastising the entirity of the United States or bemoaning governments in general, remember that there are some places, including my hometown, that will not stand for bigotry.

(Of course, we may end up seceding from the state of Florida, but that's for another day).

*sigh*

It's a bloody shame about Va esp. since I am a Virginian myself, proud and at the same time cringing.

It's ironic that TJ and George Mason, fathers of our Bill of Rights, are Virginians.

Virginia just disturbs me mightily. I know several states have similar legislation, but to destroy the progress that has been made over the years, all of it, strikes me as vindictive.

Did you get the email that I sent you from the Witching Hour/Nimbus list yesterday? Just checking on the currentness of that address...

I did get it - I'm just catching up on returning my emails now (spent the morning at a project at son's preschool, and am just finishing The Sending of the Nimbus T-Shirts Just In Time For Summer, Yay).

I have a shirt from The French Connection that says FCUK. People always looks scandalized. I think it's humorous. *ahem*
Anyhow.

Clear Channel = hypocrites, aye?

Isn't Howard saying that he's being picked on for being vocally anti-Bush? Howard's being doing the same things for years.

Thanks, Heidi. I needed to hear something positive before I go into work today. I live in Brooksville, which is about 50miles north of Tampa and drowning in rednecks. I think I take my frustrations about that out in LJ. heh.

I would love to do Disney with you! But you should probably keep in mind that I never get out of the house/job to do anything. When I say that, I mean it. Let me put it this way: the last time I saw a film in the theatres, it was 17th November 2002 and CoS had just come out!

What, the United Republic of Conch and Pink? (figure Miami Beach might as well throw in w/ Key West, right?)

That's *wonderful* news about Miami. When I first moved here, one of my professors informed me that Gainesville and Miami were the only places to live in this state without losing your mind. *g*

What a nifty sentiment!
(Although I'd have to add key west and parts of hollywood to the list - and remember Elian? Miami can be a bit mind-blowing sometimes, too.
