Since my LJ isn't googleable anyway, nothing will happen if I follow the instructions here to counteract the googlebombing of the word "Jew" - right now, if you type in Jew on Google, and click I'm Feeling Lucky, you're sent to a hate site.

But if your LJ is googleable, please go here and follow the instructions and help get the haters out of their evil little place.

I will not stand for this

I just dropped off a note to the webmaster at Google telling him about the whole "I feel lucky" thing.

Perhaps if they're swamped with complaints that might do some good and force them to change that particular bit of nastiness?

I dunno, I rather like being able to Googlebomb. Keeps the original democratic/anarchist culture of the web alive. People should know that Google's page rankings aren't necessarily representative of popularity anyway - enough Googlebombs have happened for it to make major newspapers.

Other technological blunders have created far more messed up situations - like Y!Mail's original "silent replacement" of the string "eval" in e-mails sent through it, which created the words "medireview" and "reviewuate"

I want to help with this, but I don't know if my LJ is Googleable or not . . . can you tell me how you determine if it's searchable or not, and how you change the setting?

Thanks! :-)

This page (http://www.livejournal.com/editinfo.bml)

About 2/3 the way down.
'Block Robots/Spiders from indexing your journal'
Turn that option off.
'Save Changes' at the bottom of the page.

Then any public entries you make will become searchable through search engines.

Thanks! I never quite understood what that meant, but had it turned off on general principles. Now I know. :-)

So you just have to post it as a journal entry? Will do.
