And here's why - the skeletons in POTC were just better than in LOTR. D'you think Peter Jackson altered the army in LOTR? Does anyone know?

Date: 2004-03-02 07:21 am (UTC)Could be that the skeletons in PotC were better because they *were* skeletons.
In Return of the King, the Army of the Dead was made up of ghosts - not corporeal skeletons. And they were created once again using MASSIVE.
Besides that, the skeletons in PotC were their biggest FX.
RotK had the Dead, the Mumakil/Ouliphants, Mount Doom, the eagles, more blended Hobbit/Human scenes, Trolls, Grond, the entire city of Gondor, Nazgul and their Fell Beast steeds, the new use of motion capture for horses, Shelob, the Palantir (a smaller effect to be sure), Treebeard (just for a few moments), the fall of Barad-Dur and Mordor, and - beyond all those - Weta's still awe-inspiring and crowning achievement: Gollum.
A couple of awfully cool scenes of Pirates/skeletons created by ILM really weren't a match for the stunning genius found via Richard Taylor and his team at Weta Workshop in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one, counselor.
