Is there any way to get songs off two different computers and onto my iPod?

ETA: Or, failing that, how do I network my laptop to my PC if I have a linksys wireless network thingy? Supposedly I can then move music from the laptop to the desktop.

ETA again: Figured that out - easy enough - but I can only play, I can't take from the desktop and put onto the ipod, which is linked to the laptop. Wibble.

With an iPod you can only connect to one computer. If you try to connect to a second it will erase everything on the iPod. That is Apple's way of preventing filesharing. Very frustrating for those of us with multiple computers as well.

Then what's this authorizing/deauthorizing stuff?

Authorizing your computer is how iTunes Music Store limits the three computer rule when you download music.

As for playing your music on a different computer from the main one where all your original playlists are (where you load up the iPod with music), there will be a message that should pop up (it does on the Mac side) that will inform you that your iPod is associated with another computer and if you'd like to associate it with this new one. SAY NO.

When you decline this option, it will show you your iPod and it's play lists and library and you can play directly from there, however, you won't be able to load music from there.

The workaround is to load the songs on the "mounted" iPod (the harddrive side of it, that shows up as a harddrive icon on your computer, and then when you get back to your main computer add those songs to your play list (where it should recognize your authorized computer.

I hope that helps.

Hey, one of the reasons I indulged was other than the fannish compulsion to have Complete Sets of Things, it's because I can share CDs without wearing them out. :)

It's made me lethally fond of audiobooks (not cheap!!) -- and I'm an unabridged snob. Got LotR, Dracula and the first Lemony Snicket book too, if you care to indulge (still trying to sort out an informal copy of the Silmarillion that I was given).
