What a response to the poll! It was a lark, and I certainly didn't think that many people would've voted! Am amazed.

But yes, I had a few gaps, and so I've made a followup post, which I backdated so it'll come out as "yesterday" when I do my blogbinding - feel free to vote again in there, or make an anonymous post in that LJ with all your answers. Should be interesting!

Also, if you've recently friended me (like at any point this year) I'd appreciate a minibio or something - I've realised that it's a great way to see who's around!

I've been busy reading all the answers and trying to catch up with LJs, and trying to clean my desk so I have enough space to put down a soda can, because now, it is far too overcrowded for that. Wibble.

In passing around LJ and FAP in the past day, I found some things which may be of interest:

[livejournal.com profile] lupercali posted about an auction for UNC where a script for PotC is among the items up for bidding.

[livejournal.com profile] copperbadge has updated the amazing Stealing Harry and if I did a summary of the *finally* chapter, I'd give too much of it away. Even if you're not a fan of AU's or Remus/Sirius fics, you really should give this one a try, because it's a damned fine read.

Both [livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion and some posters on FAP are dealing with the question of properly creating magic in the Potterverse, so I thought it was a good moment for a minirant from me.

Back before OotP came out, I would read fics which said things like "Mobilibook" and "Mobilidoll" and the like, and I would think, "oh that is lame." It just didn't seem as creative as JKR would do, and it always tripped me out of the story, even just for a moment. Then, when OotP came out and Tonks said, "Locomotor trunk!" I just closed the book and said, "lame." I couldn't believe JKR had utilized such a weak and uncreative manifestation of magic there, and for that moment, I thought that her story would sink into fanfic-style terms and cliches. In retrospect, I don't think it did, and I think that her magic-ology improved after that - I'm not even irked by Tonks' metamorphimagic and Legilimency is very similar to something I'd already concocted for SoC, so it's probably self-centered of me to be comfortable with that, but it was a *bad* moment there, last June. Erk.

I've signed up to do the [livejournal.com profile] scribbulus_ink challenge of writing HP characters into the plot of Emma. Those of you who've known my SOOPERSEKRIT intentions about this for a while are probably thinking I'll never do it, but haha, I wrote three paragraphs yesterday! And finalized the cast of characters. Now, I just need about a dozen or two hours of straight-on writing time.

But it won't be now, as now, we are off to bebeclass.

Have great days, everyone!

ETA: Also, the How To Write Like a Wanker article? V. funny. V. accurate.

OMG!! I go to school there! (I saw UNC and was all, "Surely it's not my UNC," but hey, I guess it was.) I vaguely remember hearing Pirates of the Caribbean and script, but somehow, I managed to miss the implications.

Um, Hi. *waves hand shyly around*

I have recently friended you and I haven’t had the time to post anything (I’m new at this LJ thing), so I guess I’ll introduce myself.

My name is Jocelynn, and I live in south Florida! Yeah, I know you do too, that's one of the reasons why I friended you. I just didn’t know it until I found your journal, and I’ve known about you since the beginning! Otherwise I would have said something before.
And here I was, thinking it was just pure coincidence that Nimbus was held in Orlando! I couldn’t attend by the way, ironically enough… I was in England at the time. *pouts*

I'm currently enrolled in FIU, working on my freshman year. I love reading, and writing. I haven’t had the courage to upload anything to FA yet, but that’s one of my New Year resolutions. *wink* I admire many of the authors in the fandom, and you are among them. I think that I would be more involved if I really wanted to, but up until now all I’ve done in fandom is read, and review. Not this year though.

I don’t know what else to say… I guess it would be really cool to meet you. I hope you don’t mind me friending you, and I also find your journal very interesting, and pink *wink*

See ya around!

I'm The Rogue Bitch, but in real life my name is Cassandra to most people.

I'm 34, separated, mother to a mostly wonderful 17 month old girl named Hari. I'm in my last semester of the Master's program for Library Studies at UW-Madison in Wisconsin.

I came to the fandom via Buffy fanfics. I really enjoy a good crossover, and the ones I've read that were good HP/BtVS crossovers were *very* good (bad fanfic, as everyone knows, is abysmal). I've only been here about 6 months, I think, but I already have my favorites. I think there should be a BetterPotterFics list on Yahoo, just like there is a BetterBuffyFics list, because I just don't have the time or energy to slog through acres of crappy fic just to find the gems.

[livejournal.com profile] heidi8 friended me first, and since I have good manners, I friended her back! ;->

I added you last year, but I don't remember if I ever did a mini-bio? If not, let me know and I'll introduce myself ASAP. If I did, I apologize for wasting your comment space :)

Hi, Heidi :)

Let's see...

I "discovered" fandom fairly recently (August) when I read my first fic on FA (Lori's PoU). While I like H/Hr, I'm not a rabid and crazy shipper, and am really just here to read and review anything and everything I have time for (which isn't too much, but I try, as everyone does...) and to admire everything that is Potter along with others that enjoy it as much as I do. *g*

I just registered at FAP, but am a big-time lurker...so we'll see how that goes :).

I sort of "ran into" your journal through [livejournal.com profile] madlorivoldmort's friends page, and just went 0__0 when I realized all that you and your team of FA's do here :).

And...I'm a high school student just a bit north of you in Ft. Lauderdale :).

*hugs*
Elise

Ah, what to say to introduce myself?

My name is Kristen and I am a graduate student living in Atlanta with my fiancee'. I came to the HP fandom about a year and 1/2 ago through my mom, actually, and have loved it! I have no talent at art or writing (although I wish I did), so I enjoy both of those aspects of the fandom vicariously through others. I recently joined FAP, but have been a very shy poster so far.

Let's see, what else? I am a big ole science geek, I drink too much coffee, and I am currently obsessed with presidential politics (although I won't get into that here ~ I have my own journal for that!).

I think that should be enough for now. In case you were curious, you stumbled into my humble little journal about a month back, and I was flattered to hear you thoughts on my thoughts!

(Repost; I am a doof.)

I didn't even notice the bitsy spells in OotP. I hope that JKR does more with the Legilimency and Occlumency (unsure of spelling--it's been over 6 months since I've read the thing) in the next book. Of course, it could have just been a plot device to set up conflict between Snape and Harry, and if it is such it will be such a dreadful disappointment. At least Tonks's ability was used to good effect. Now all that we need out of Tonks is some more character development.

As for mini-bio: I think I'm a known issue (to you at least)--ex-HP fandomer, started kicking around the fandom in July '00, pretty much left in November '02. Still have loads of friends in it, so am usually seen irritating them on LJ and fooling the unobservant into thinking I still am involved.

Most relevant details re current me can be found on my user info.

Hello. I'm a 27 year-old female with an English degree. I studied psychology, history, drama and have a bunch of minors...because I still don't know what I want to do with my life. I love to read. I also like to discuss things I read and do research. I love music, seeing bands live, movies, art, museums, quiet time, great discussions/debate, and I am quite interested in politics, government, and history. I have been married almost 3 years and have a 2 1/2 year old son, Silas. I am thinking that I need to get into grad school soon because I am getting antsy sitting at home all the time, but I am glad I get to spend so much time with my son.
I came into the fandom as a result of my friend who is not really *involved* in the online fandom, I suppose. (she is only getting into any aspect of the fandom just now, at my prodding. I figured she would love it--discussing canon and reading fic--since she loves the books and HP Universe so.) She read and loved the books as they were released. She kept trying to get me to read them, knowing I would love them, but I heartily refused, because I thought they couldn't be *that* great, right? Well, I was wrong. She finally got me to read them about a year or so ago. I borrowed the first one (and 3rd) from her and read the first so fast, I went out and bought the second and fourth ones because I couldn't wait to borrow them from her.
Immediately after, I went online searching for *something* about this Harry Potter, though I was unsure what. I was in the LotR fandom for over a year before that(not fanfic, though, just canon discussions, message boards and stuff). Through that I had come across, surprise, surprise, The Very Secret Diaries. I remembered that when I had found them, I searched for more stuff by her about LotR. When I found Cassie's lj and such, though, it said that she was more into HP fandom, so I just filed that bit away, so to speak, and went on my merry way.
So when I went looking, I remembered the Diaries and Cassie and began a search. I remembered hearing about the Draco Trilogy, gosh, about 2 years ago I suppose, and this was what I went searching for, since I had NO idea how to *find* any sort of fic. I had NO idea that there was this much HP fanfic, much less this much fanfic period, out there! I was immediately swept away and have been in love with this fandom ever since, drama and all.
I lurked on lj's and FA and all for a while before I got my own lj, enjoying the discussions and participating when I got brave enough. When I did, I friended a few lj's I liked and enjoyed reading on a regular basis and because I liked fics by them, respected them in some way or had things in common with them. :) So I friended your lj.
Now I am wanting to get more involved, possibly polish up my writing skills, and maybe beta...or something. Who knows?
So that is my long mini bio!

Hi... I friended you ... eh, sometime in the last 6 months or so.

minibio
I'm Jill. 24, and living in Switzerland, working as an aupair. Before this step, I lived in northwest Arkansas, and read lots of books.

I came to fandoms in general through the Earth's Children books, and one day it occurred to me that there were probably similiar things for Harry Potter, which I had just started reading at that point. And how... I haven't stopped reading fan fic since.

I dig reading well written stories no matter what the ship, but if I were writing it, it'd be pumpkin pie for me. Mostly, I do fan art, and not even so much of that these days.

I'm not really in the fandom, because I rarely post if I have nothing of value to say, but I lurk like nobody's business.

I love the Write Like a Wanker article!

Hm. Mini-bio. I am Midwestern and I have been in the HP fandom for just a little less than two years. I'm not a big fic writer (Valentine's day marks a year without writing any fic, I think), but I write essays and recs and sometimes post links to fandom!things. Uh. I also enjoy chocolate pie? (I am really running out of things to say, here.)

Hey, I think I've friended you for about a month so far :)

Anyways, mini bio...

I'm Kristy, a 15 year-old sophomore living in California. :) You'll probably recognize me better as lacrima di phoenix over at fictionalley, or the y! projects group.

I'd probably be considered a late-comer into the world of fandom since I first discovered it only in October 2002. I lurked around FA for quite a while... for about 8 months probably, since I was too shy to speak up heh. Now, I'm getting more involved, and have started drawing fanart and participating more in activities.

Other interests? Webdesigning, milk and cereal, and Lord of the Rings ;)

That should be enough for now...

*waves* Jeanne here. I'm a twenty-one year old college student majoring in Art. I think I friended you about a month or two ago, though I've lurked around the journal for quite some time before that. Have been in online fandoms since '95/'96, joined the HP fandom several years ago, and have been on FAP for almost two years now. And, right now, I consider my main fandoms to be HP, LotR and Alias.

I thought that poll was real fun and had lots of choices!

I've added you to my friend's list because I really adore people like you and you're such a wonderful FA moderator.

I'm from CA and have been up with the HP fandom for the past 2 years, checking FA and mugglenet, you know, etc. I write and draw art and I got a livejournal for a year and came across your interesting lj. Hope you don't mind that I've added you ^_^!

Heidi! This is so INTERESTING! Can you pinpoint exactly WHY you thought it was lame - was it b/c it was an English word? Or was there something else? *goes all hyper-analytical and spots a paper bunny hiding amongst the rant*

I'll spare you the mini-bio as I think you've had the honor *coughcough* of reading that in a few separate places over the last couple of months, and it's not that interesting in the first place. I will say here, though, that you gave me my first chance to really start talking to people within the fandom (which was very difficult for me) by steering me towards the potter_parents list. I really appreciate that. :-)

I friended you a few months ago, so here's the mini-bio as requested.

*waves to all* Hi, my name is Andrea and I'm an HP fanficcer. *pauses for shouts of "Hi, Andrea!"* My authorial name is actually Andrea13, because I'm incredibly uncreative. I started out in fandom with X-Men comic books, but got dragged kicking and screaming into the HP fandom by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] persephone_kore, my co-writer in many fics. I write the Thinking Cap series (fifth and last coming soon) and co-write the Stepbrothers series with PK. (Currently at seven fics, I believe.) Um...I'm 25, an attorney living in Texas with my two psychotic cats. I think that's about it. :)
