Jan. 21st, 2004 10:51 amWhen did you first discover Harry Potter?: Novemer, 1998, after the first book was profiled in the NY Times. My first copy is a 6th printing,
Book first or movie first?: Book.
Were you hooked instantly, or did it take a while?: Instantly. Fantasy + british-school books? What a hook!
Did you instantly fall in love with any specific character?: Harry, of course, and Hermione by the middle of the book.
Favorite...
Professor: Lupin. I adore him so much.
Marauder: Oh, I cannot choose! I love James for his bravery in the end, Sirius for his devotion and dedication and Remus for his love for Harry and for Sirius, even where it's understated and/or subtextual (and yes, those loves *are* different things)
Gryffindor: Oh, hell. I have to pick? Harry and Hermione
Slytherin: I schnoogle Draco and want to get him into therapy, the messed-up woobie
Hufflepuff: I schnoogle Zacharias and want to get him into therapy, the little git.
Ravenclaw: Eh, none, thanks.
Character overall: I have a soft spot for Eloise, who is named after her grandmother, who is a Muggleborn witch from NYC who was a city child and lived at the plaza, but that's just me. In terms of canon, Harry, Hermione, Remus and Sirius.
How long did it take you to read...
Book 1?: A day or so.
Book 2?: I think five or six hours - a plane ride to Boston, plus the time waiting at the airport beforehand.
Book 3?: About six or seven hours. I was rushing; my due date was two weeks away and I was all "I could go into labour at any minute and I must finish the book!" Of course, I was 10 days late...
Book 4?: Got it at midnight and I was finished by eleven in the morning, and I did sleep during the night, unlike...
Book 5?: Not enough time spent. Should have gone slower.
What house would you be in?: Hufflepuff
What would your pet be?: A turtle
What would your wand be?: Palm with a coral-crystal core. What, I'm from Florida!
Who would you date?: In Cassie's DS universe, I had a date with Remus, but it didn't go well. Still, I was willing to try again!
What would be your fave subject?: I am very curious about Ancient Runes.
How did you feel about OotP's character death?: I cried. I cried so much and I think it was partially exhaustion and I really, really hated JKR after that. And afterwards, I was just stunned.
What are your views on the Dark Lord?: He's going about it all wrong.
Weasleys or Malfoys?: Personally, I don't think the name "Malfoy" means much of anything, as I think Lucius didn't come from money but married Narcissa for it, which is why he so resents Arthur, who comes from a storied background (he is a cousin of Sirius's) but has no ambition to live up to all that, but then again, I wouldn't want to be intertwined with the Black family either, as a matter of mental health. So... Grangers.

Date: 2004-01-21 04:26 pm (UTC)If it helps you out, the first part "Mal-" is French for "bad." Just thought I would share.
Your answers are so much more detailed than mine. *feeling like a sleepy git*
Book 5?: Not enough time spent. Should have gone slower.
I'd have to say that I agree with that. I was there as soon as it was released, and after having all that pent-up anticipation it must have taken me about five hours or so to read it all.

Date: 2004-01-21 07:06 pm (UTC)I didn't realize our oldest kids were so close in age. O was born 5 Nov 99. (And both of mine were so late we had to pharmaceutically or surgically remove them. Never again!)
So... Grangers.
But, ack - dentists? I think I prefer the Bones family - a solid wizarding family with at least some status, plus their women seem level-headed.
Love the Midgen backstory. Hee. There's still nothing like a good bawth, is there?
